Did you miss the Starry Nights Festival and Gala?
If you did, we'll help you out by reliving a little bit of the magic. Below are some of the beautiful designer trees that were up for auction. We will have even more of a recap in the next issue of Monday @ The Mission on 12/19.
We're so grateful to you and to Lincoln Benefit Life and all of our sponsors, the designers who made the trees so fabulous and all of the hundreds of people who came and helped us spread the holiday spirit!

How was your Turkey Day?
We hope you enjoyed the holiday--we sure did here at the Mission. Guests enjoyed stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pie, and, of course, turkey at our Thanksgiving meal. More than 90 volunteers, including Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman, helped serve the special meal to those staying at the Mission and their guests.
"Normally we go through the line instead of sitting down and getting served," said Caitlin, one of the children who stays at the Mission with her mother and brother. "They're taking time from being with their family and coming here and doing something nice for others."
Rhonda, Caitlyn's mother, says the family was in a different situation last Thanksgiving.
"This has been a pretty special one because we had a place to stay," said Rhonda. "It made you realize more of what you're thankful for, my kids, a place to stay, friends."
She says this Thanksgiving is better than years past.
"You don't even realize how much you appreciate things until you don't really have anything," said Rhonda. "You have a lot more to be thankful for then."
Thank you to all who volunteered to help out with our special holiday dinner. The staff and guests at the Mission are thankful for your kindness, and wish you and your loved ones a very merry holiday season.

Meet Kelley
Kelley Hanau is the nurse practitioner at the Mission’s free clinic, and has been since the clinic opened two-and-a-half years ago. She wears many hats in her position, spending her time advising patients and staff, keeping data entry up-to-date, directing clinic vaccination efforts, assisting with recruiting and more.
Kelley’s time at the clinic has brought her into contact with people she admires very much.
“The people we serve here may not recognize it, but they are very courageous,” she said. “They get up every day and pursue what many people take for granted, whether that is shelter, a job, treatment for a sore tooth, transportation, medication, food, etc.”
The enthusiastic gratitude of her patients touches Kelley’s heart and reminds her why she became a nurse practitioner. It can be difficult, however, to keep up with the overwhelming demand.
“The most challenging part of my job is the limitation of 24 hours in a day and the large population we serve,” she said. “The resources my patients need are difficult to obtain and it can be extremely challenging to work through the quagmire.” Kelley’s workdays begin and end with prayer, entrusting the difficulties and the successes encountered at the clinic to the Lord. Despite obstacles, she and the rest of the clinic staff and volunteers want very much to help patients reach their goals and show them God’s love.
“Even if we are unable to do great and wonderful things to “fix” their problems, they tell me that simply having a person actually care and take the time to listen has helped.”

Young heroes
This year, nine-year-old Faith Fisher used her birthday as a reason to give to the children at the Mission. Faith donated all the gifts she received to kids she knew would appreciate them. Her generous heart brought many smiles. Thank you, Faith!
