Employee Bio - Valerie Smith

Valerie grew up in David City, where she attended St. Mary's and Aquinas. Early on she knew she wanted to help others, participating in Modern Woodmen and the S.O.U.L club.

After graduating Aquinas, Valerie attended Peru State, later transferring to Missouri Valley College, a small Christian-based college, where she majored in Human Service Management and Recreation. The school helped Valerie foster the Christian lifestyle she had fallen away from, making her all the more determined to eventually find work in a Christian environment that would help her continue to grow as a person.

As her college days were coming to a close, she needed to get her 600 hours of required internship and realized it was ValerieBioPictime to return to Nebraska. After contacting People's City Mission, she was given an opportunity she couldn't pass up.

In the morning, Valerie is the Family Shelter Supervisor, working with guests directly, giving physical, emotional and spiritual support and guidance. In the evening, she supervises the Homework Club program and the Club E.D.E.F.Y. program for kids at The Mission.

Since working at People's City Mission, Valerie says "I have learned a lot of things...to put aside pre-conceived notions of people and see them for who they are. She continues, "This is why I get out of bed every morning to go to work. I enjoy what I do every day and the people I work with on a daily basis, and that makes it completely worthwhile to me".

Fund the Clinic

Jeannine came to us unable to breathe and having difficulty walking. She had no health insurance and no where else to go. Thanks to the People's City Mission Free Medical Clinic, Jeannine was able to get the care that saved her life.

There are a lot of people like Jeannine, who have steady jobs but are still unable to afford health insurance. We see them for free, but we can't do it without your help!

We need to raise $250,000 in our Fund the Clinic campaign, to keep the clinic doors open and to continue to help those who desperately need it.

Visit our NEW website, at fundtheclinic.org and hear more about the good work we are doing and how you can help us keep the clinic's doors open to those that do desperately need medical care
