Meet the Volunteers of the Mission: Kevin Thorpe

A few years ago Kevin was at a low point in his life. He was struggling with alcoholism and couldn't hold onto a job. Kevin found himself at the People's City Mission. While here he received counseling and encouragement from the staff, whom he said had a real caring attitude. He was soon able to turn anger into forgiveness and start on his path to healing.

Kevin went into rehabilitation and then to a halfway house to achieve sobriety. He truly wanted to change his life and to become a productive member of the community. Now Kevin is employed and has maintained his sobriety and his job for over two years! But he hasn't forgotten about the people at PCM.

Distribution CenterEvery Saturday morning Kevin shows up at the Distribution Center, on his day off, to lend a helping hand. He rides with one of our drivers going around town to pick up food for the upcoming week at the mission. He works tirelessly with a tremendously positive attitude and a real servant's heart as they load and unload the donations onto the trucks.

He says he just wants to help the community and to repay the mission in some way for all it's done for him; the mission took him in when he had no place to stay. Just two short years ago, he could hardly imagine that today he would be in this position, free of alcohol and a radically changed life. We are proud of everything that Kevin has accomplished and we deeply appreciate his service!

"There is no other place quite like the mission." -Kevin

Community Thanks

Miranda BirthdayLincoln has some of the greatest groups of generous kids. This past week was Miranda's birthday. Instead of asking for presents, she asked her friends to bring things like toilet paper and diapers for our guests who come to the Distribution Center. Our thanks to Miranda for thinking of others on her special day and Happy Birthday!!!!

The Hope Church Preteens came out a few weeks ago to take a tour of the Mission, have lunch and learn more about what happens here. They blessed us by bringing some gifts for the children at the Mission as well. Thank you!
