How's your New Year so far?

Christmas at the Mission

Christmas Bow

Thank you for all you've done for us this holiday season. Through the many things that were donated by individuals, families and businesses all of our guests had the opportunity to open a present as well as shop for presents for their children.

One of our guests sent their thanks as well:

To the People City Mission:

We want to thank you for all the wonderful Blessings we received for Christmas. This is the best Christmas my family has had in years. The memory of seeing my little girls face; how happy they were when they were unwrapping their gifts. I just thank God for the mission and the people who care so much for us here. Thank you so much!

Hooper Family

You have blessed more people than you can possibly imagine. Thank you for paying it forward and being His hands extended.

Please continue to remember the Mission in 2011 and may you have a blessed New Year!

PT's New Year Tradition

Pastor Tom Barber's TraditionOur director here at the Mission, Pastor Tom Barber, started a tradition with his family to begin the New Year

As a modern day sign of committing their ways to the Lord, the men in PT's family let their beards grow out for about a month in December. Then as December changes to January, they all shave their beards together.

This tradition got its start out of the passage in Joshua 24:15 that says "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." It allows them to refocus and set their sights on the things that are important to them as they begin the new year.

PT started this tradition with his sons in 1978, and as his family has grown, his son-in-laws, grandsons (even those who can't shave yet) and college students that he has mentored have adopted this New Year's tradition.

As the New Year starts, are you making traditions to remind yourself of the you that you want to be?

Spotlight on Sarah Landretti

Each time you receive your copy of Monday at the Mission, it arrives from Sarah Landretti. Sarah writes many of the stories in this eNewsletter and will be back to help write Monday at the Mission in two weeks, but this we week we wanted to tell you a little about her.

Sarah has been the Donor Relations Manager for about a year and has been busy counting and responding to the many donations that you have blessed the Mission with this Christmas season. Before she was the Donor Relations Manager, she worked directly with our guests in the Family Shelter Office. Several of our transitional guests still know her by name and continue to love her caring attitude.

The Mission is very grateful to have Sarah as part of our team. At the Mission our people are one of out greatest assets and our employees are called to use all their talents to make sure we are able to provide for our guests. And Sarah has plenty of talents to lend. Her organization, patience and writing skills have been a great resource to the Mission. She is a great blessing.

When not busily working here this Christmas season, Sarah could be found spending time with her husband and two children baking cookies.

Thank you Sarah for all your help.
