Turkey Giveaway

This year the People's City Mission is pleased to announce that thanks to the generous support of our donors we are able to give over 1,000 turkeys and the fixin's to local families in need.
Thursday of last week our Distribution Center began to distribute everything you could need for a thanksgiving feast. They had vegetables, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and a turkey for each of 1,000 households. And not only that, but they also gave out a free blanket with each meal.
Standing back and watching the look on people's faces as they came to pick up their thanksgiving meal was truly rewarding. But it was also heartwarming to see the joy on the faces of the volunteers who came to distribute the food, as they knew that those few minutes of their day were moments that were impacting whole families' lives.
Chanta, a single mom of 5 boys, took the time to step aside and tell me about how this meal would make all the difference in the world to her family this holiday.
We have been so blessed by the generosity of our local donors, both small and large, it all adds up to something great! Happy Thanksgiving Lincoln!

PCM's Annual Banquet was held on November 11th at the Lancaster Event Center, and we are pleased to report that this year's attendance nearly doubled last year's running well over 400.
Charlie Brogan from KFOR, led the audience through an evening filled with stories from the past year at the Mission. As a new tradition this year we recognized three of our outstanding partners. Elaine Croston was presented with Volunteer of the Year for her phenomenal service to the guests and staff at the Mission. The Business Partner of the Year was awarded to Bailey Lauerman for their pro bono work on "Mission Bean - Great Coffee for the Greater Good" campaign, and Dr. Tom Martin was presented with Medical Partner of the Year for his work helping to set up the PCM Free Medical Clinic.
Angela Washington, the Volunteer Coordinator for the PCM Free Medical Clinic, highlighted stories from this year. Our Clinic has seen nearly 6,000 people and over 11,000 patient visits in its first full year of operation. Medical professionals and other community members have donated their time and financial support so that all of these individuals have been seen for free with no cost to the taxpayer.
Jerry Owen, Associate Director of the Mission, spoke about how our VA Program has helped many veterans in Lincoln get back on their feet. Recently the Program was granted approval to expand from 14 to 30 beds to allow the Mission to help even more veterans who have given so much of themselves to serve our country.
Visit PCM's YouTube channel to see the videos that were featured. Pastor Tom Barber, Executive Director of the Mission, closed the night with a question and answer session, talking about highlights of the past year including the Mission receiving Charity Navigator Four-Star Award recognition for being in the nation's top 1% of fiscally responsible charities. Pastor Tom spoke of his vision for the upcoming year and many people remarked that they left feeling a greater understanding of what we do and a renewed sense of need to help the Mission as it truly is Lincoln's safety net for the less fortunate. |
