Recap: PCM Free Medical Clinic: Open House

This past Thursday, July 29th, we celebrated the first year of operation for our Free Medical Clinic with an open house. Over 100 guests joined us for an afternoon that included a message from Pastor Tom, tours of the clinic and great food & refreshments.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to those who made this day possible - our clinic staff, our food prep gurus and everyone else at the mission who gave time & energy for this event. And of course we also thank our great volunteers and donors who allow us to keep our clinic doors open.

We are so grateful for those of you who made it out for the open house. We loved seeing you there!!

Ashley Gerlach

Meet the Staff & Volunteers of PCM: Ashley Gerlach

In January of 2009 Ashley Gerlach was a college student finishing her business degree when she was assigned a research paper on nationalized health care.  Her research brought her across the newly developing PCM Free Medical Clinic.  She was so impressed by the concept of a free clinic that she dug a little deeper.

Ashley had been looking for a marketing internship for her degree but wasn't having much luck.  When she was researching PCM's clinic, she saw that we were looking for a Volunteer Coordinator for the new clinic and the opportunity sounded intriguing.

"I've always been somebody who likes to help people.  I just believe I can make a difference, even if it's small."

Ashley began as a volunteer and was hired on as one of our three clinic staff members in July 2009.  Ashley loves getting to know the volunteers that come to be a part of the PCM Clinic.  She says the best part of her job is when somebody needs something that she's able to help them get, and it makes a difference in that persons life.
hyvee food drive

Hy-Vee Food Drive

Starting July 26th and running through August 15th, all five Lincoln area Hy-Vee stores are hosting a Food Drive to benefit the People's City Mission.  So next time you run to the store to pick up groceries, consider your local Hy-Vee.

The People's City Mission not only supplies food for our guests staying in our shelters but we also provide food for over 900 of Lincoln's working poor families each week. That's a lot of food! So every single donation is extremely valuable to us and those we serve.

So while you're out doing your shopping, consider putting a little something extra in the cart for those in need!
