PCM Free Medical Clinic Celebrates 1st Anniversary With an Open House

Did you know there are over 44,000 uninsured people in Lincoln/Lancaster County? That is why we opened the People's City Mission Free Medical Clinic in July of 2009.  The Medical Clinic is staffed by just three paid Mission employees, and then supported by over 30 part time medical volunteers who are retired from medicine or are serving here on their days off.

The Medical Clinic offers general medical care along with Vision, Dental, Behavioral Health, Chiropractic care, Dermatology and Diabetic education to name a few of the services. It is truly making a difference in the lives of many people!!

In the past year we have seen approximately 8,200 patients and provided over 670 prescriptions to uninsured individuals.  The People's City Mission Free Clinic does all of this without the aid of government funding, further relieving the economic strain on our community.

To celebrate our first Anniversary, we will hold an Open House with food and refreshments on July 29th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Presentation by Pastor Tom at 4:00 pm with tours starting at 4:30 pm.

We invite YOU to come join us. Help us celebrate our Clinic's first year!

Sarah

Medical Clinic Brings Healing to More Than Just the Patients

In one year's time, Sara went from owning her own medical practice to being penniless, unemployed, and recovering from alcoholism. You see, Sara chose to get help for her addiction while at the same time her accountant stole her entire life's savings.

Sara soon found herself sinking into a deep depression and unable to find work. She then read about the PCM Clinic in the paper. She began to volunteer as support staff and each morning the clinic staff would start the day by holding hands and praying together.

This was new to Sara. The love and kindness of her coworkers led her to question what they had that she didn't. Whatever it was, she wanted it! Her coworker, Pat, took her to church, where she gave her heart to God.

"I never would have imagined that I would become religious."

Through her time as a volunteer for the clinic Sara has found hope, faith and a renewed sense of purpose.

Many people say that the healing that takes place at our clinic is just as profound, if not more so, in the lives of our volunteers as it is in the lives of the people they help.

Club E.D.E.F.Y. Summer Volunteers

In the last issue of Monday at the Mission we told you about our summer missionaries that are working with our kids, however they are not the only one's!

Please meet Ali and Makayla Duncan.  Ali and Makayla are Children's Ministry majors at NE Christian College and have come to do a summer internship here at PCM. They are giving our kids 600 hours of their time this summer. What a blessing!

Makayla's favorite thing so far is getting to know the kids and learning their personalities. Ali loves being able to take them on field trips and to see the joy on their faces when they get to experience things they otherwise might not get a chance to do.

What a blessing they have been to the mission and to our kids!
