Greetings!

"The seventy-two returned with joy and said, 'Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.' Jesus turned to his disciples and said, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and hear what you hear but did not hear it."  Luke 10:17 & 23

One of the greatest joys in life is having the Lord send you out to a specific place of ministry. It transforms you. Your concept of God changes because in it you discover His leading and provision first-hand. When the seventy-two disciples came back, I believe they were changed forever. For one thing, they found out the power of the Holy Spirit was available to them also. As they went forth they could do the same things Jesus was doing.

This created a paradigm shift within them concerning revival. To this point, scripture indicates the revival they had been part of was happening to them. Now revival became something that was happening through them. And that changed everything. As a result "being sent" became their life purpose. How could they settle for anything less?

Were they different from you and me? I don't think so. We still need to experience the awesome power of "being sent." The question is where is God sending us? For each person, the Lord has a different answer. Yet, in one way the answer is the same. Every believer is sent somewhere to witness the good news of Jesus Christ. To live it out in a way that makes a difference to others.

As an aged deacon was leading a pious group of believers in prayer, he began with one of his stereotypical phrases, "Oh Lord, reach Thou out to the lost and dying, shelter them with Thy great love, touch them with Thy mighty finger." As he spoke these words, he suddenly stopped short and looked around in amazement. Other members came to his side and asked if he was ok. He replied, "Yes, I think so. But something strange just happened to me. As I was praying, a clear and distinct voice whispered into my ear, "Thou art the finger."

Dear friends, "Thou art the finger!"

Chris's Story
Bridge
Chris* had frequented the Mission for over a year, been kicked out at least five times for fighting and was known for his aggressive behavior.  Addicted to crack and alcohol, he lived on the streets for several years.  Even though he didn't get along with staff, he kept coming back to the Mission for food and shelter.

Chris especially disliked one particular staff member, James*, but James didn't let this stop him from reaching out.  One day, James invited a group of the men to go bowling.  Reluctantly, Chris decided to join since other H.I.S. Center guests would also be attending.  To Chris's dismay, the other men didn't show up but James insisted that they still go bowling.  This one-on-one time allowed James to share the gospel and invite Chris to church.

At church one Sunday, Chris heard that Jesus loved him.  "How could Jesus love him?" he thought.  But something inside Chris changed, and the tears came when he realized that he was a child of God.

For over a month now, Chris has chosen to stay clean from drugs and alcohol.  He's constantly studying his Bible and asking staff questions about faith.  Instead of fighting, Chris has shared the gospel with fellow guests.  He's even trying to reestablish a connection with his daughter to become the father that he knows he needs to be.

God has become something real to Chris - not just a name or a word, but a living being in his life.  Harmful behaviors and beliefs that were entrenched in Chris's personality are gone.  The transformation of this life is truly a miracle.

Medical Clinic Volunteers
Clinic Drywall Volunteers
The construction work on the PCM Medical Clinic is progressing well. Volunteers from Bethel Baptist Church in Ord, assisted by Curtis Center men and other volunteers, began hanging drywall and sound-dampening insulation in the clinic. We now have individual rooms and hallways, with about half of the walls completed.

We are still looking for volunteers at all levels of experience and with all types of expertise-everything from doctors, dentists, counselors, nurses and other medical professionals, to clerical and computer staff, to greeters and anyone else with a heart to serve.
Thank you for supporting
People's City Mission.  What we do is possible only through your generosity and goodwill.

Happy Valentine's Day,
from our hearts to yours.

Sincerely,
People's City Mission Staff
