Raising Cane's Raising Coats For People's City Mission
For each coat donated to Raising Cane's between Oct. 1st and November 7th, Raising Cane's is taking $1 off of any combo meal. Last year, Raising Cane's supplied PCM with many coats for PCM guests and clients during the cold winter months. Many thanks to Raising Cane's for their time and effort in organizing this coat drive. |
PCM Staff We'd like to welcome Brett Anderson to the People's City Mission staff. Brett will be working part-time inthe Family Shelter to replace Matt Pickering as he pursues his call as a Naval chaplain. We are also saying a sad goodbye to Vicki Crawford, caseworker for PCM. Vicki has blessed the Mission with her dedication to the less-fortunate for several years. We wish her the best in her future endeavors. |

Greetings!
"The world and its ambitions will pass away, but the one that does the will of God lives forever." (1 John 2:17) During the early 1800s, two sons were born to a family by the name of Taylor. They lived in Yorkshire, England, and were part of a burgeoning middle class society. The oldest son was very ambitious and talented, and set out to make a name for himself. He eventually become wealthy, entered England's high society, and was eventually elected to Parliament. The younger son chose a different route. At an early age, he gave his life to Christ. Later he recalled, "Well, I do remember, as in unreserved consecration I put myself, my life, my friends, my all, upon the altar. I felt I was in the presence of God, entering into covenant with the Almighty." With that commitment, he went on to spend his life as a missionary in China. Unlike his brother, he died in relative obscurity. His name was Hudson Taylor. Today he is known and honored on every continent as one of the greatest missionaries in Christianity. He founded the China Inland Mission (now known as Overseas Missionary Fellowship), which has significantly influenced the spread of Christianity in China. For his brother, however, you can find no lasting tribute. When you look in the encyclopedia, there are only these words about him - "the brother of Hudson Taylor." Just an encouraging reminder that what you do for Christ will have the most lasting impact on your legacy!
Blessings to you,
Pastor Tom Barber

Medical Clinic - Community Information Meeting
The meeting was held on Tuesday, October 14th, with 40 attendees. Marge Hamrell from Volunteers in Medicine and Beth Vavrina of People's City Mission explained the clinic's planned operations. Hamrell described the "culture of caring" model and how free clinics complement existing services within the community.
In 2007, over 29,000 Lancaster County residents went without health care because of the cost. PCM expects to reduce non-emergency visits to the hospital ER by the un-insured by 23% within two years of the clinic's opening. |
