Monday at the Mission
Monday, July 21, 2008 |
Greetings!
Cooking is one of my passions! So grocery shopping is an adventure as I seek out new ingredients to try out on my husband and family.
Lately, however, my enthusiasm has diminished somewhat due to all the government warnings about the possibility of product contamination. I long for the "good old days" when I shopped shop without concern for expiration dates, "use before..." warnings or terms such as "shelf life."
Now when I shop for British jams and preserves for my husband, I am reminded that even preserves can't be preserved forever! Then I realize that neither can we. We each have an "expiration date."
"The years of our life are threescore years and ten." Psalm 90:10 And therefore we need to continually number our days ... that is, to count our days .. and focus our lives upon the wisdom of the Lord.
These are sobering thoughts for a hot, lazy summer day. And yet, as I am surrounded by God's infinite love and mercy, I feel energized to begin a new day, seeking His direction for my life.
Enjoy a wonderful week,
Barbara B. McCall, J.D.

The PCM Distribution Center at 21st and N Streets needs non-perishable food donations.
Next time you pass by, please bring us a bag of food. We try to give 6 items per family. |
Free Medical Clinic Update Plans are being finalized for remodeling the former HIS Center building for use as our free medical clinic. This building is on PCM property, just north of the Family Shelter and Recreation Building. We will offer free medical services to uninsured PCM guests and Lincoln residents.
This large open area will
be converted into examination rooms for medical, dental and opthomology patients as well as counseling rooms, a reception area, nurses station, restrooms, and other areas necessary for the efficient delivery of medical care.
Beth Vavrina, project manager, is soliciting volunteers to help with the remodeling and volunteers to work in the clinic once it opens. For more information, look on our web page.
