Mission Bean Coffee:
|
| Canned Food Allotment
Cut by 1/2 |
|
|
We urgently need canned and
non-perishable food at the Distribution Center. We have an average of 15 new applicants for food donations every day. Our supply of canned and non-perishable food has run so low that we are limiting families to 3 items per week, rather than the usual 6 or 7 items. We desperately need non-perishable food donations.
Each family that qualifies for weekly food assistance receives free meat (pork or chicken) for one family meal, free bread and fresh produce plus their choice of non-perishable food items.
Please bring a bag canned or other non-perishable items to the Distribution Center. Six items will will help one family.

Thanks be to God for the donors who gave a generous donation to the PCM Free Medical Clinic. This donation will allow us to remodel the former HIS Center.
Lord, hear our prayers for Edna Pickett's husband who is hospitalized. Edna is our Kitchen Manager at the Mission.
Lord, hear our prayers for a Mission guest family with an adult daughter who is having severe seizures. We pray for healing, safety and for the ability to handle this upheaval in ways that honor the Lord.
Lord, hear our prayers for John Stephens, a Distribution Center employee who was taken to the hospital today. We pray that the doctors will determine the problem and that John will make a quick recovery.
Lord, hear our prayers for the Mission staff and their families who are currently on vacation and traveling. We pray that their minds and bodies will be refreshed and that they will return safely to their homes.
Lord, hear our prayers for peace in the world. We pray for all those in harms way and look forward to the day when wars shall cease.

Greetings!
Our son Dave, who just moved out of state for his Internal Medicine Residency, came for lunch on Sunday with his two beloveds ... Jameca and baby Jordan. Dave was picking up another load of "his things" that were stored in our basement. The occasion provided us with the opportunity to prepare a Sunday dinner: sustanance for the long drive home!
After they drove away, my husband and I stood at the door waving until they were out of sight. Then Donald looked at me and with an impish grin and said something to the effect that he had enjoyed my "over the top" dinner! In fact, he said it was more than a mere dinner ... it was a feast! I answered him in the only language that he sometimes seems to understand, saying "If a son asks for bread, who among you will give him a stone [or even half a loaf]? Luke 11:11 KJV. My husband got the point.
In his own gentle way, Jesus is reminding us that our responses to the needs of others in this life ought to be triggered not by need or necessity as much as by "over the top" acts of love and joy.
I like to believe that it is that spirit and that attitude in which we greet our guests who arrive at the People's City Mission door, asking for help. We give them more than bread, for we reach out to them with love and joy and welcome them into our family where we pray they will experience the healing love of Jesus Christ.
Thank you for being a part of our family of caring and for helping us "go over the top" as we reach out to those who need healing and love.

Veterans Administration Grant
Our Curtis Center transitional housing program just received a grant from the VA that will subsidize the rent of up to 12 homeless veterans staying with us. This subsidy should allow us to fund another staff position for the Curtis Center.
The VA has the largest integrated network of homeless assistance programs in the country. It is the only federal agency that provides substantial on-on-one contact with the homeless.
People's City Mission, Curtis Center Housing and the Distribution Center all serve homeless veterans. We are honored to be able to provide services to those who have served in the US Armed Forces.
If you or someone you know would like to apply for transitional housing, please contact Edie McNeese (for men) or Renita Tyrance (for women). 402-475-1303.
