Greetings!

Now that the new Curtis Center with its 60 studio rooms is open and fully occupied, I have become increasingly impressed with the architect's plan and design of the building.  To be sure, the Agape Cafe has proven to be a remarkable success.  We knew that the guest rooms surrounding the two outdoor courtyards would be the finest available.  Putting the staff offices in the middle of the complex has added to their visibility and accessibility.

Tranquility Room
But what I never realized before was how important the Tranquility Room would be to our residents.  This room is comfortably furnished and designed to allow those who seek it a place to quietly go and contemplate the issues in life that they are working through and to "Comprehend ... the Love of Christ which surpasses knowledge that they may be filled with the fullness of God."  Ephesians 3:18-19.

But more than a room filled with religious or devotional books where our guests may sit and read and comprehend (to intellectually know with the mind) the Love of God ... the Tranquility Room is also a place of quietness and peace where they can come to quietly apprehend (to grasp and embrace the meaning of) the fullness of God's love in their lives.  For it is when we intuitively apprehend the Love of God in our lives that we in turn are apprehended (grasped) by that Love and able to respond to the words of Jesus who said, "Follow Me."  Or, as the Apostle Paul puts it, "Not that I consider myself already perfect ... but I follow that I may apprehend that for which I am also apprehended in Christ Jesus."  Phillipians 3:12.  And that feeling of pressing on to grasp and to embrace God's purpose for our lives, I believe, is the beginning of Christian Discipleship.

Thank you for your contributions that have made the Tranquility  Room possible and available for our Curtis Center men.

Kyle Jaggers, high school Junior from Westminster Presbyterian Church, collected over 100 coats and over 70 hats, gloves and scarves for the Mission!  All of these items were delivered to the Distribution Center last Wednesday where they were stored for next winter.

Yes, one person can make a significant difference in the lives of many!

Thank you Kyle.  Thank you for including People's City Mission in your Eagle Scout project.

E Free Grand Island They're a great looking group!

The youth and leaders from the E-Free Church in Grand Island were here last week for two nights and three days.  They brought energy and enthusiasm that inspired guests and staff alike.

They worked side-by-side with us and experienced the joy of working together and sharing the Good News of Christ's love.

If you are part of a group that would like to stay with us this summer as part of the Backyard Mission Project, please contact Grace Knuth, our In-house Missionary.  Come for one night or a week of nights!  We promise a life changing experience.

Lord, hear our prayers for Rick Ragsdale, our Distribution Center manager.  His mother died last week.  May Rick and his family know the peace that comes from faith in God's love, even during time of grief and distress.

Lord, hear our prayers for Deb, one of our guests, who had a miscarriage last week. May Deb and her husband know that our prayers are with them.

Harris Overpass

Work is progressing on the Harris Overpass.  The construction that started at the east end is moving toward us!

You can see the black-tipped poles that will become part of the support structure for the west end of the overpass.

Special Needs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need kitchen volunteers for Saturday and Sunday to do preparation, serving and clean up.  We provide all food products.  This is an ideal project for a small group!  Volunteer to take responsibility for one weekend meal...or one meal for several weeks during the summer.
We serve three meals each day.  The kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Even if you can only volunteer for a few hours, one time...please call Nora and help out.  Nora Ragon 475-1303.
Do you have a small, working microwave for our Family Shelter?  If so, please call Nora at 475-1303.
