I was really looking forward to this Memorial Day weekend
And finding time to work in my garden that I need to tend;
But when I started searching for my tools and garden gloves
I came upon this nest with these two baby Mourning Doves.
Their nest had been carefully built in an old clay flower pot
That I had abandoned last fall or else completely forgot;
However, later it providentially proved to be just right
For the mother dove to nurture her babies out of sight.
My thoughts of yard work came to a sudden halt
Not because of fatigue or some physical fault;
But rather due to my own maternal instincts
As well as, I'm sure, some other biblical links...
For somewhere, I remembered, the Psalmist once said
"Do not deliver the soul of the dove to the wicked.
Do not forget the life of the poor forever." Psalm 74:19
And thus I was challenged by these words of the Psalter.
And so on this Memorial Day weekend
I hope dear Reader, and People's City Mission friend;
That you did not forget the life of the poor and the homeless
And all of our vulnerable guests whose lives we seek to bless.
