Greetings!

It has long intrigues me that Jesus often began his prayers with the words,
"My Barb PhotoFather, if it be possible ..."  Matthew 26:39  Or on another occasion,
"My Father, if this cup cannot pass ... "  Matthew 26:42.

Yet, when his disciples asked him to teach them how to pray, He said, "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.  Pray then like this: Our Father who art in heaven"  Matthew 6:9.

I think there is a good reason for the change in the use of the pronouns in these two prayers,  For Jesus knew that prayer brought us not only into a close relationship with God and our own deeper selves, but it also gave us a sense of our relationships with one another.  God knows what we need.  We need to be aware of the needs of our neighbors and others in this world, for we are all children of God.  He is our Father and we are His children and we belong to one another in Christ.

I find this thought very helpful, especially here at People's City Mission where many of our guests are homeless and don't think of themselves as part of a family .. least of all a family where we are bound together by the love of Christ ... and where we care for one another and pray for one another saying, "Our Father who art in heaven ... "

The Gift of a Car
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Auto DonationSusan and Vincent, a couple staying at the Mission, are the latest recipients of a car donated to People's City Mission.
When we receive a donated vehicle, we first send it to a mechanic for evaluation and reasonable repair.
The guest who receives the vehicle must have a valid drivers license and the ability to register the vehicle in his or her own name.
As a guest works toward independent living, the gift of an auto is often that "one thing" that helps them to gain employment and become a reliable worker.
For more information about donating your used auto, please call Jerry Owen at 402 475-1303. People's City Mission Home is a 501(c)(3) organization so your donations are deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS.
Gardening on the North Lot
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Garden
People's City Mission owns the land to the north of the shelter at 110 Q Street ... all the way to Salt Creek.  However, this land is flood plain so building on this land requires a substantial deposit of dirt...if we can get permission!

We recently obtained grants that will allow us to use this flood plain for garden space and walking trails and grassy area.  We have started turning the dirt for the garden area.  Guests will be able to raise vegetables and sell them at the Farmer's Market if they wish.

If you have extra seedlings, plants, garden tools or other garden items you wish to donate, please call Beth Vavrina at 402 475-1303.

If you have gardening expertise you would like to share, please volunteer  to help us with this project.  We are anxious to get started!

On the religious life...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The religious life exists and thrives not in buildings or dead things or flowers or beasts but in the soul.  And there is exists not as a "good feeling" but as a constant purpose, an unending love that expresses itself now as patience, now as humility, now as courage, now as self-denial, now as justice, but always in a strong knot of faith and hope, and all of these are nothing but aspects of one constant deep desire, charity,love.
