Greetings!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The New Year is all about new beginnings and fresh starts.
And the hope of fulfilling the highest dreams of our hearts.
Of putting aside the sins of the past and thus to be set free
To be born again to be what God created us to be...

The "Happy New Year Effect" is what happened every time that Jesus encountered some troubled soul or anyone who was seeking a fresh start in life.  He forgave them the past sins of their lives and offered them a new chance to be set free from sin and to be born again to be what God created them to be.

When Jesus met the woman of Samaria at Jacob's well, they spoke of her past life and then, after forgiving her for her past sins, He gave her a new beginning in life, saying "The water I give you will become a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  John 4:14.

When Nicodemus came to Jesus under the cover of darkness, they talked late into the night and then Jesus said to him, "You must be born again" thus offering him a new beginning and a fresh start in life.  John 3:3.

As you celebrate the New Year tonight and the hope for a new and fresh start in life, remember in your hears that we celebrate the "Happy New Year Effect" every day of the year here at the People's City Mission.  Every day some troubled soul walks through our front doors seeking a new beginning in life...seeking a fresh start in life...and we welcome them, as would Christ Himself, with loving and open arms and then we try to help them overcome the demons of the past and find new beginnings and fresh starts for the future!

You have no idea how exciting it is to work at PCM where we celebrate a New Year for someone here at the Mission every day....and all because of your generosity!

May we all have a blessed New Year!

Year-to-date financials.

The People's City Mission annual budget anticipated cash donations during the month of December of close to $500,000.00.  As of the close of business on Friday, December 29, we had received $437,000.00.  We are coming very close to our target amount.  God has richly blessed us this year.
Our family was blessed by the birth of a son!
Many of you asked for photos....

Christmas at the Distribution Center
Sasha's report

The Distribution Center has been a busy place!  Distribution Center front Eight-hundred and fifty families received Christmas turkeys and food bags.  One thousand and four children received one or more Christmas gifts.  All totaled, our Distribution Center helped 2,420 people at Christmas this year.

In addition to all of this, every guest at the Mission received gifts and had Christmas dinner.  Santa even stopped at PCM!

All of this was possible because of your generosity.  Thank you for your Christmas donations!

Amazing Volunteers!
There was no room in the kitchen....

REBECCATen members of the Thornton and Bontrager families hoped to volunteer to serve Christmas Dinner at People's City Mission.  However, when they called our Volunteer Coordinator Rebecca (pictured), they learned that we already had enough volunteers...there was no room for them in the kitchen!

So, these creative families found another avenue for their service.  They came to the Mission on Christmas Day bringing paint, ladders, brushes and paint rollers and they painted a large stairwell in the Family Shelter!  It's beautiful.  The updated color makes such a difference.

Many of you can remember Christmas 2007 as a Christmas of service to those in need.  You have shared so much with us!

Thank you to the Thornton and Bontrager families, all those who served our Christmas Dinner, wrapped gifts, stuffed envelopes and completed all of the special holiday tasks.  Thank you to everyone who brought us gifts, turkeys, food, and cash donations.  May you remember Christmas 2007 with joy!

Curtis Center Update

Some of our guests who are ready to move into the Curtis Center are helping with the final cleaning.  I chatted with them as I toured the building today and they are so grateful for this building!  They told me that they call the large bathroom with showers "the Taj Mahal!"

We were able to get the street in front of the Curtis Center paved as the weather has been mild.  We are still waiting for the delivery of the furniture for the common areas and lounges.  As you might expect, things slow down over the holidays.  Well, things have slowed for everyone but Edie McNeese, Director of the Curtis Center!  She is working extra hours to qualify men as tenants so that they can move in as quickly as possible.

Next Monday, Deo volare, I will be writing about the Curtis Center up and running!
Please join me in prayer.....
Women in our Mirror Program
The six women* in our Mirror Program will be starting one month of job training this week.  The goal is for each of them to obtain employment after graduation, March 2008.  Each is a hard worker and has integrity and comes highly recommended by our staff.

Each of these women have been working faithfully with Renita Tyrance to discover God's will for their lives.  Please join me in praying for each of them as they move toward graduation.  May the Mirror Program be a true new beginning for each of them and may they feel our love surrounding them as they complete their program and seek employment.

* I have not identified these women by name or photograph as we protect our guest's privacy while they are in the Mirror Program.
