March/April 2012
|
A question to reflect on.
Over a cuppa with a dance friend, we determined part of why we danced was that we loved the sense of working toward a shared goal, best of all, the goal, essentially, of beauty! MMmmm, Dance. Creating together something beautiful. Magical. Which we cannot create again. Magical again, yes, but like a spiral rather than a circle ~ it loops back on itself, but never again to the same place.
Many simply answer "because I have to!". I am among those. When all better judgement tells me to "move on", it comes back quietly, almost desperately to, "but I have to".
To have fun. To be fit, strong, flexible. To develop a skill ~ to be good at something. To find community. To create beauty. To learn deeply about other cultures. To breathe the music. So many many reasons. Why do you dance?
in motion,
Lynn

Introducing new Art House instructor, Liz Nokes
Dance Theatre for Teens
This class gives a general dance training (elements of modern, ballet and jazz) to set things going. Non verbal theatre elements will be introduced in a variety of ways. In addition a musical theatre piece will be taught to bring the elements of stage and performance to the class.
A fun, alive class!
Tuesdays 4:30 - 5:45pm
Dance as Healing for Mind and Body
This is a class that focuses on alignment and core to bring all parts of the body into the proper balance, relieving the stresses that occur when something is 'out of whack'. At the same time the serenity, the joy and then the sheer fun of dance are integral in the class for body and soul heal each other, bring freedom of body, peace of mind and 'joie de vivre'. The class uses music from many genres and countries.
Tuesdays 6:00 - 7:30pm and/or Wednesdays 1:30 - 3:00pm Ballet for Teens and AdultsThis class is for beginners and also for those who have had a bit of dance. Ballet has been 400 years in the making and the calmness and rightness of its 'barre' bringing alignment and gentle foot and body training, the poetry and grace of its adagio time in the centre, the 'dance love' enjoyment of the step section and the sheer power and exhilaration of the jumps are the elements of a ballet class. Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00pm

Art House Highlights:
What is 'Yin Stretch'? Yin is a simple, quiet practice that explores the connective tissue and joints of the body. The major difference between yin and traditional yoga is that yin postures are passive and done with the muscles relaxed. The poses are held on the floor, for anywhere between 1 and 5 minutes each. The main focus of Yin Yoga is to keep the joints and connective tissues of the body mobile. A regular practice of Yin yoga helps to free areas of chronic tightness primarily in the hips, legs, and lower back. Join us for one hour of blissful stretch at a new time Wednesdays at 5:00pm with Robin Massey of The Om Tree. All levels welcome, no prior yoga experience necessary.

Fernwood Yoga Den
| Congratulations Lola & Rachel
MoonDance is pleased to introduce our friends at the Yoga Den, whose outreach mission is an inspiration, and who's values parallel our own...
Their vision at the Fernwood Yoga Den is to create a space where all members of the community are warmly welcomed - a place where everyone is included and can share in the transformational practice of yoga together. Owners Rachel Sadava and Lola Storry have teamed up to bring The Yoga Den to Fernwood. They share a passion for yoga and a commitment to community development and social justice. They believe that students at the Fernwood Yoga Den want to make a positive change in the world - and so a portion of all profits earned by the Yoga Den go to support our Vision Programming - these are classes offered on- and off-site to clients who would not have the financial ability to otherwise participate in yoga. Our Vision classes include Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Yoga for Mental Health, and Pre-and Post-Natal Yoga for Single Mums. By purchasing a punchcard or monthly pass, you are personally facilitating access to yoga for another student. This is sangha (community) in action!

The Practice of Beauty
|
Beauty is a sense of wonder and reverence for the harmony, colour, and loveliness of the World. Beauty opens us to the deep patterns of life that inform and delight us. It allows us to feel our connectedness with all creation. It calls us to look beyond superficial appearance to appreciate the gifts in each person. Our creativity brings forth beauty in music, art, dance, and language. We practice beauty by creating a space of order and grace around us. We can reflect beauty in the way we move and speak. Living beautifully is a unique expression of our divine nature.
Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.
The practice of Beauty:
I spend time in the beauty of Nature. I am inspired by the mysteries of life. I look for the good within everyone. I express my creativity. I am thankful for the gift of Beauty. It nourishes my soul.
