  African Jigsaw -
Victoria Children's Choir

African Jigsaw

On April 23 and April 24 2010, the Victoria Children's Choir will present two performances of a multi-media work entitled African Jigsaw.

The challenging lyrics and beautiful music of African Jigsaw raise awareness that in the city, extreme poverty is only a few steps away from wealth and vitality.  Developed countries, including Canada, share many of the same problems, although perhaps to a lesser degree.  We need to consider how we might go about solving this imbalance of wealth.  African Jigsaw does not offer the answers but instead paints a sympathetic and touching picture that reveals many pieces of the puzzle.

Date:  April 23 and 24, 7:00 p.m.

Venue: CentralBaptistChurch - 833 Pandora Street

Tickets:  $15   Available from:  Long & McQuade, Larsen Music, Ivy's Bookshop, Cadboro Bay Book Co, Shepherd Books and at the door.

Guest Artists:

Juliana Wigmore &
Kate Richmond

"Respect is not a passive act.
To respect someone is to look for the springs that feed the pool of their experience."

Every Woman

Every Woman

every WOMAN
Inspiring Through Physical Activity

every WOMAN is a weekend event offering fitness, dance and wellness workshops. All shapes and sizes welcome. No experience necessary. Humour recommended. Movement guaranteed.

Last year, I loved, of course, all of the workshops I attended.  BUT this year I'm on a mission to try some NEW adventures.  Mountain Biking and Gymnastics top the chart for me : )  Its such an open, non-competitive environment, that its a great forum for exploration!

My drum workshop is full already, as are some of the other workshops, so sign up soon... Use code: MOONDANCE for a $50 discount.

See you in Whistler!

Yours,

Lynn

The Ripple Effect

The Ripple Effect

In a world of six billion people, it's easy to believe that the only way to initiate profound transformation is to take extreme action. Each of us, however, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse.

Reflecting on the 10 Days event (www.Matoto.org) and thoughts & actions in general, a friend and I watched the effects of pebbles into the still waters of the Lake.  10 small rocks made a big splash!  And the most intricate, unpredictable patterns: the way those ripples interacted was unique each time.  They spread and expand as they move outwards, infinitely, though imperceptibly after time.

As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain.

The impact you have on the world is greater than you could ever imagine, and the choices you make can have far-reaching consequences.

Every transformation, just like every ripple, has a point of origin. You must believe in your ability to be that point of origin if you want to use the ripples you create to spread goodness.

A smile directed at a stranger, a compliment given to a friend, an attitude of laughter, or a thoughtful gesture can send ripples that spread among your loved ones and associates, out into your community, and finally throughout the world. You have the power to touch the lives of everyone you come into contact with and everyone those people come into contact with. The momentum of your influence will grow as your ripples moves onward and outward. One of those ripples could become a tidal wave of positivity.

Asana Dance

What is Asana Dance?

Yoga-Dance (Asana's are poses or postures in yoga) means many different things.  For many it is simply flow-yoga, maybe with music.
For me, as a dancer with a deep love of yoga (rather than a yogini with a love of dance) it is a synergistic blend. Following the music completely, Asana dance does incorporate flow yoga, but also simple dance steps, and free movement. There is therefore also a cardiovascular element one doesn't generally experience in a yoga class.

Through the practice, we can draw on and explore

many traditions of India: Goddesses, Chakras, Ashram Prayer Dance, Bhangra folk dance, Hatha Yoga and more (you know I'm all about context!  This collectively is the culture of yoga).

Yoga means "union" and refers to the union of body & mind, (as well as the myriad dichotomies of our existence).

Dance is such an effective way to achieve this sense of Union.  Staying naturally in the moment we can experience the body in terms of how it feels rather than thinking and analysing.

Om

                    Your body is your Temple.

Asana Dance Class is at Kali Yoga,

Food For Thought

to be of service

The Practice of SERVICE

Everybody can be great...because anybody
can serve.
Martin Luther King Jr

Using our gifts to be of service is the fullest expression of our lives.  Whatever we may achieve, the quality of our own life comes from the quality of our contribution.  A spirit of service invests whatever we do with excellence.  People who want to be of service can change the World.

In your day, invite these thoughts:

I look for opportunities to be useful.
I work with wholehearted enthusiasm.
I do thoughtful things.
I am optimistic and hopeful.
I give freely of my time and attention.
I use my gifts to make a difference in the World.

I am thankful for the gift of Service:
It makes my life a mantra.
