Thank you to everyone who supported Victoria Dance Days. What a hoot! (imagine 40+ people dancing in a 700sq foot studio. Less like dance class, more like party!) HUGE thank you again to the dancers who shared their class space with said 40 people!! Thank you to Dance Victoria for bringing the Dance Community together in such a fun, vibrant way!

Commitment for Syzygy
|
 |
|
With your Spring Registration you will be asked to include a $5 Commitment Fee for the year-end show if you will be participating.
Because of the sliding-scale, its basically on a honour-system, but please be aware of whether or not you are choosing this option, as one of the goals of the commitment fee is to ensure your commitment! (doesn't work if you don't know whether or not you did commit! he he)
The other goal for the fee is to help cover costs. It is an expensive show to produce, and we try to: - keep ticket prices reasonable - have extra for a good cause! (you guessed it: Matoto!) The show is set for May 30th at the beautiful Alix Gooldin Hall at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. With special guests, including Bopoma Music Marimba Ensemble! Participation is optional, of course, but everyone always has a blast, and it is powerful to work toward a goal! More details will be available soon. Please feel free to contact Nikko (our Victoria kids' instructor) if you have questions: Nikko@MoonDanceArts.ca

| Ten Days THANK YOU!! |
MoonDance's partner non-profit, Matoto Multicultural Arts Society raised $10,835 in 10 days (never mind the two-weeks to finally collect it all ; ) to finish the school in Kubian.
THANK YOU to all the gregarious Team Captains, gracious Team Members, and generous Donors! You ROCK! WE DID IT!
With Rainy Season approaching (April - Nov), the school won't be finished immediately. But with the funds accessible when they are needed, progress will move much quicker when it can.
If you didn't see these already, click: this link to watch a brief slide show about the project, and here for a video:

And NOW ~ an enormous "thank you" to Alya Gigla Sylla: our contact in Guinea for the project (what a huge job!), to all the construction crew in Kubian, and to all of the residents of Kubian, who welcomed us with open arms, open hearts, and open minds.

Find Your Tribe
|
Part of
being human is the search for a unique identity. Bound to this
strong need to establish an individual persona, however, is an equally
intense desire for acceptance and community. It is when we "find our tribes"
that both are satisfied.
Our tribe members are those people who accept
us as we are without reservation and gladly accompany us on our
journeys of evolution. Among them, we feel free to be our imperfect
selves, to engage unabashedly in the activities we enjoy, and to
express our vulnerabilities by relying on our tribe for support. We
feel comfortable investing our time and energy in the members of our
tribe, and are equally comfortable allowing them to invest their
resources in our development.
The individuals who eventually become members of each unique tribe are
out there in the wide world waiting to connect. We are destined to find
them, one by one, as we move through life. Sometimes our own effort put us in contact with future tribe members. Other times,
circumstances beyond our control play a role in connecting our tribe.
You may already be allied with many of them (I'm shifting our MoonDance "cult" ha ha! to: MoonDance Tribe!).
As we come together with our tribe, be assured that its members will stand together. On the
surface, a tribe may seem to be a loose-knit group
of friends and acquaintances to whom we ally ourselves. Yet looking deeper, we discover that our tribe grounds us, and provides
a sense of community that ultimately fulfills many of our
most basic human needs.

The Art House
|
Construction is well underway... Almost a floor on the second story (the dance floor!)

Right behind the address is where the front door will be. That's the "reception window" just to the left of the "door".
The soon-to-be second story. Wheel-chair access is from a door just to the left of this view.

| Food For Thought |

The Practice of JOYFULNESS
This one of my favourites to think of as a "virtue", not as a reaction to circumstances. We experience joy when we choose to, not when things go our way. I love saying to Jiya, "remember to practice your joyfulness!"
LW
Joyfulness is an inner wellspring of peace and happiness. Through the practice of joyfulness, we savor the richness of life. We find the humour in things. We take ourselves lightly and remember to play.
I have a deep sense that life is good. I enjoy the richness of life's pleasures. I appreciate simple pleasures. I am optimistic and hopeful. I am connected to my purpose.
I feel inner contentment even when life is difficult.
I am thankful for the gift of Joyfulness: It is the natural state of my soul.
Adapted from the Virtues Project International.
