EARTH DANCE
|
|
|
One of my favourite ways to beat the "winter blues" is to start dreaming of Summer.
Start planning your Summer vacation, sketch the rows in your garden for companion-planting, or dream of camping at OUR Eco Village during Earth Dance!
Last year it was SO hot that the fabulous tipee that our friends at the Eco Village set up for snack-time was too hot to be in. Now its difficult to imagine that sensation, shivering as I am, by my woodstove! Ah, Summer...
We've expanded the program for 2010 to include more options for families for camping & lunch on-site, as well as a full-day option (out-of-camp care for full-time working families), and an older age group!
We've also added another fabulous instructor to the team: Jennie Stevens will be leading music, including marimba!
Camp includes 3 age-groups, creating programs for 3 - 5 yr olds 6 - 8 yr olds and new this year 9 - 11yr olds!
Campers sing, dance (many genres) make music, and participate in great outdoor eco-activities, such as cob building, and nature walks.
The Eco Village is such a gift to our Island. Come and see...
July 12 - 15, 2010
Registration available January 2010.

Applications are now being accepted for a part-time administrative position.
Most of the hours will be at the Art House at Shawnigan Lake upon completion of the building, though some work can be done from home...
A love of the Arts is vital, as are computer and interpersonal skills. Bookkeeping is a bonus!!
Please email Info@MoonDanceArts.ca for details or to apply.

December 2009 |
Wow. December already! 2010 approaching. The dark days of Winter are a great time to reflect, and, of course, to share our time with friends and family (those who know me, know this registers high on my list!) I hope you make time for whatever is on your list of priorities for the Holiday Season.
Let peace and peace and peace be everywhere. -Upanishands

I'm an IDEALIST
|

Imagine, Connect, Act
So many of us hope for a more peaceful, sustainable, vibrant world. Why does it seem that, in spite of so many, our world is instead fraught with war, poverty, disease & destruction? The founder of idealist.org identifies three challenges:
1. A big gap between our good intentions and our actions.
2. Our problems are connected, but we are not.
3. The world is full of good ideas that don't spread quickly enough.
We can change this now:
For the first time in
history we can build a global network that will serve and support all
those people who want to make the world a better place. A network, a
movement, an ecosystem that will allow people and organizations
everywhere to imagine, connect, and act:
Imagine a better world, a better community, and a better life.
Connect with others, and share skills, ideas, and resources
Act on our good intentions, and help others to act on theirs.
A name we can use:
Names work; words matter.
If you are a teacher from Peru and you meet another teacher from Peru,
you only have to say two words-"teacher" and "Peru"-to transmit a
lifetime's worth of shared experiences. And if you want to start a
group of Peruvian teachers, you have the words to do it.
In our case the people are there, but the words are missing. Wherever you go in the world you will find people who:
Want to live in a world where all people can lead free and dignified lives;
Believe that with all the resources we have now we should be able to do much more;
Would be happy to do their part, in a spirit of generosity and mutual respect.
These
people are everywhere. You recognize them when you meet them, but what
do you call them? And if you can't name them-if we can't name
ourselves-how can we connect?
Let's call these people "Idealists" and see what we can do with that.
We can agree on one overarching goal- to help build
a world where all people can lead free and dignified lives- and then
focus on the three challenges we outlined above:
Make it easier for people and organizations to move from intentions to action.
Connect people, organizations, and resources in every possible way.
Find good ideas wherever they are, and distribute them as widely as possible.
SO, any idealists out there: I invite you to call yourself an "Idealist". If you want to formalise it, go to Idealist.org where Ami is mapping all the Idealists all around the World. Or make idealism part of your organisation or personal vision.

The Practice of Idealism
"You see things and you say, 'Why?' But I dream things that never were and I say, 'Why not?'."
- George Bernard Shaw
Idealism is having a vision of what is possible and wanting to make a difference. It is caring passionately about what is meaningful in life. Idealists dare to have big dreams and then act as is they are possible. Idealism doesn't mean idle dreaming. Idle dreaming is wishing things were better. Idealists do something to make things better - to make the ideal reality.
I have a dream.
I have a plan.
I have faith in the highest possible outcome.
I walk my talk.
I persevere.
I make a difference.
I am thankful for the gift of Idealism: It allows my dreams to become reality.
