Dancing on the Edge of a Dream

Health and Wellness

Aromatherapy has an history stretching back to the beginning of time.  Aromas from plants gave humans clues about safety, nutrition, healing ~ many of the properties of a plant are revealed by its essential oil.

A French chemist re-kindled popular interest in aromatherapy in our times.  Having burned his hand, he stuck it in a vat of lavender oil, and noticing that the pain and scarring were dramatically reduced, set about to study the properties of the oil.

Essential Oils have three main functions:
- physical-chemical reactions
- emotional-physiological reactions
- spiritual reactions, based on folklore, history, and ritual.

One of aromatherapy's gifts is in empowering the "patient".  While an aromatherapist can provide information about the oils, intuition is really the best guide.   Once an individual appreciates that her/his wellness is in her/his own hands, dramatic improvements are seen in health, lifestyle, and wellness.

Here's my favourite recipe  ~ my Peacefulness Blend:

Bergamot
Ylang Ylang
Sweet Orange
Sandalwood
Geranium
Rose
Neroli

I tend to use seven oils in each blend, one for balancing each chakra.  All things have vibrations, and those waves interact with each other (this is what music is, for example).  Don't be afraid to try multiple oils together.

Now what?
Use the blend:
 in your bath,
in a diffuser (aka oil burner),
in a carrier oil  (olive, avocado, grapeseed, carrot seed, etc) to apply to skin,
in a spritzer bottle with distilled water (air freshener or face & body spray)

add it to un-scented dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo, etc.

ENJOY.

Autumn Dance

Wow ~ really? September?
I trust that August was everything you hoped it would be.
For my end-of-Summer reflection, I've re-instated my gratitude practice: every day (every moment, really) noting what I'm grateful for.
From big-picture stuff like I'M GRATEFUL FOR JIYA (my daughter),
to the mundane: I'M GLAD THIS REALLY SLOW DRIVER IS IN FRONT OF ME, SO THAT I'M NOT SPEEDING ; )  to the subtle: I AM GRATEFUL FOR BEING PART OF THE ONE ENERGY OF THE UNIVERSE.
Right at this moment: what are you grateful for?

                                                                            Blessings,
                                                           Lynn

Why is it all about West Africa?
West African music and dance embody poetry, history, community, and transformation.
Immersion in this amazing culture and all its gifts allows us to celebrate life, ourselves, our bodies, our Community.

Every instance of deep learning from another culture involves an inherent respect for the people of that culture.  Each person who participates contributes to the preservation of multicultural life on this planet.

Food For Thought

May 2 event posterThe Practice of Gratitude

Gratitude is a constant attitude of thankfulness and appreciation for life as it unfolds.  Living in the moment, we are open to the abundance around us and within us.  We express appreciation freely.  We contemplate the richness of our life.  In life's trials, we seek to understand, to accept, to learn.  Gratitude is a continual celebration of life.

"Happiness cannot be travelled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed.  Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude."
- D. Waitley

Affirm:
I am grateful for my life.
I perceive the blessings in each moment.
I continually express appreciation.
I reflect on the good things of life.
I discern the gifts in my tests.
I am open to the joys of life.
I celebrate my life.

Adapted from the Virtues Project International.

Remember: its not happiness that makes us grateful, its gratitude that allows us to be happy.
