As many of you know, MoonDance is affiliated with a non-profit Society named Matoto.

Our Board is made up of seven "MoonDancers", five of whom have been in Guinea, and were involved directly in the Kubian School Project.

Choose one, or rotate between djembe & balafon.  Please bring an instrument if you have one, or register in advance to reserve one.

Djembe:
the typical hand-drum of West Africa and beyond!  Wine-glass shaped shell with a goat skin, this versatile, penetrating instrument is often the Lead of the ensemble.

Balafon:
the ancestor of the xylophone, the balafon is the melodic 21-bar instrument of the Griots ~ the historians of West Africa.

Through study and performance with prestigious artists and performance groups: Ballet Saamato, Merveille de Guinee, Sekou Sylla, Karamoko Daman, and Bolokada, Manimou has a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to share with students.

Talented dancer and singer, Mohamed's passion shows through in his teaching.  Among his many credits: Le Ballet Taille, Aklysso, and Le Ballet Kali.

Each day has many workshops to choose from, as well time for swimming, private lessons, nature walks, or quiet time... 
There are also many additional activites, such as a Guinean dinner, a forum on contemporary issues in West Africa, and a Doundounba (dance party!).

Keyké Faré means "MoonDance" in Susu, the language of our family and teachers in Guinea.
