Full Moon

full moon

In many traditions, the day of the Full Moon is a very auspicious day.  The luminous fullness of the moon represents plentitude, abundance, and generous blessings.

Connecting during a full moon allows us time to honour the Moon, and our cycles and relationships with it.

Full Moon Gathering for Women:
Join us every month during the Full Moon for an evening of sacred movement, deep relaxation, feminine connection and opening your heart's desire. All levels of yogini's are welcome.  For more information please see http://www.theomtree.com/WomenFullMoon.html.

International Dance Day - April 29th

Someone is so totally on my page!  This from UNESCOs
Conseil International de la Danse - CID -
International Dance Council

In line with UNESCO's struggle against prejudice and discrimination, we are trying to expand the boundaries of dance and to change the current perception of what a dancer is. Dance performances are not necessarily exhibitions of extreme physicality, accurate precision, or bursting emotion - they can be celebrations of interaction between performers. We can enrich dance concerts with dancers, singers, actors, narrators, mimes, acrobats etc., of all ages and all degrees of ability.
Bringing the 'excluded' into dance is a moral duty...  In every country there are millions of persons with physical or mental disabilities. We believe they are ready to dance.
CID holds to the philosophy that everyone can dance. Dance Day 2009 is dedicated to inclusive dance (emphasis mine). Let us include all members of society into our classes and our performances.
Prof. Alkis Raftis

Dance in West Africa completely demonstrates this idea of inclusiveness ~ people of all ages and abilities participate.  Take yourself completely outside your conceptions of WHO can dance: I witnessed a person with no legs dancing (on his hands) in a community circle dance, for example.

I think this really touches on the essence of what dance is truly about ~ not simply movement for movement's sake, but the embodiment of poetry, history, community, and transformation

Victoria - Taiama Society

Taiama Event

Teachers do so much to enrich the lives of our children.
In Canada, we are so fortunate. While no system is perfect, we have an excellent standard of education...
In Sierra Leone, a different story plays:
Imagine that your school has been destroyed by war. Imagine that you have had to leave your country because it is no longer safe.

The Ahmadiyya School Project story began in 1974 when 11 year old student, Eric Sama, met Maureen Mark, then a volunteer with Canadian Crossroads International. Over the years, Maureen sponsored Eric to complete his education, including his teacher training! In 1990, Eric Sama became a teacher at the Ahmadiyya Primary School (Grades 1-7) in
Taiama, Sierra Leone.
In 1996, all this changed: the civil war arrived in Taiama. The village was attacked, schools were closed. Eric, his family, and many of his students became refugees. The war continued for several years, and although Eric tried to continue teaching and indeed set up temporary schools and shelters several times, the country became too dangerous. He and his family became refugees to Canada in 2000.
Finally, in 2001, after four years of schools being closed and after much damage and destruction, schools were reopened.

To help support the project in Sierra Leone, please attend their upcoming event (see above), or contact them through www.Taiama.org.

MoonDance Instructor Erin Brule

MoonDance regrets to announce that Erin Brule is no longer teaching with us.

While she will always be part of the MoonDance family, she will be living near her sister in Kamloops, BC.

 Erin Brule

As many of you know, Erin is a dynamic, energetic dancer, talented drummer, singer, and all-round great gal!

With heavy hearts, we wish her all the best for her new endeavours, and look forward to dancing with her each time Prairie Child brings her back to Island.
