Dear Friend,

People often ask me if I get tired of "dressing up" every day. The answer is no, because I never actually feel "dressed up" - I feel like me. It's hard sometimes to be authentic every day - to show up as The Real You. Let's face it, we don't always feel like showing up. Period. However, it's worse to show up as someone you're not.

In thinking about my business, I always say, "I AM my business." How I present myself on a daily basis matters. And it matters for you too. After all, you are your "business" and that is true whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a corporate exec, an entrepreneur or anything in between. We benefit from actively representing our true selves in a world and a time where it's easy to lose sight of who we are and where we are going.

Put The Real You Out There

If you want your family, friends and colleagues to see you as a strong, confident, pulled-together person, then start acting like one - and start dressing like one. That doesn't mean you have to "dress up" but it does mean you have to show up every day as The Real You. And that means something different for everyone.

It can feel daunting if you focus on how other people think you should look. It's simply impossible to be everything to everyone. However, you can always be true to yourself. Bob Dylan phrased it well when he said, "If you want somebody you can trust, trust yourself."

Make a Daily Habit of The Real You

The next time you get ready to run errands, go to the grocery or head to work, think about who you are and who you want people to see. When you show up every time being authentic, people know what they are getting. And what they are getting is The Real You.

As you head into spring, I challenge you to remember every day who you are and who you want the world to see. If you spend just a few extra moments in your closet in the morning, you'll end your day in the evening feeling like yourself. And what could be better than that?
