Clarkstown Students Advance at National History Day Regionals | Clarkstown Central School District students who recently competed at National History Day regionals at St. Thomas Aquinas College will be advancing to the state competition in Cooperstown. These students are:

North Celebrates Sticky Notes | This past Friday, March 23, 2012, North High School held its ninth annual Sticky Notes workshop. Since its inception, Sticky Notes has been a day of poetry and creative writing, attracting students from North, South, as well as various invited schools from Rockland and Bergen counties. This year both Tenafly and Ramapo joined Clarkstown students in workshops ranging from Storybird, led by North Teacher Karen Czajkowski, to Slam Poetry, led by North Principal Harry Leonardatos.

A Show Not to Miss - Centerstage Performs "Into The Woods" Clarkstown South's Centerstage club presents "Into The Woods". This hilarious and thought provoking musical brings together classic characters like Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack (of beanstalk notoriety) into one whacky yet poignant fairy tale. Performances are April 20 & 21 at 8pm and April 21 & 22 at 2pm. For tickets call (845) 638-3077.

Lakewood School Concert Band Debuts A World Premier The Lakewood Elementary School Concert Band played the world premier of "Midsummer Overture" at the Spring Concert on March 27. Mr. Andrew Pease, Lakewood's music teacher, wrote the piece for the elementary band and was excited to be able to have Lakewood musicians be a part of the debut. Mr. Pease is also the conductor of the Columbia University Wind Ensemble and the Columbia Summer Winds. We are very thankful that Mr. Pease shares his many fine conducting and compositional skills with us in Clarkstown! |
New City Elementary Students Prove that Every Penny Counts! Fifth graders at NCE supported research for children with cancer by collecting pennies for patients for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Kids scoured couch cushions and car seats, and even emptied piggy banks, collecting a total of $411.31! |
New Mural Transforms the Walls at New City Elementary Looking for some very professional mural work for a wall? Look no further! New City Elementary students possess all of the talent needed! North High School students and New City Elementary alumni Alyssa Angel, Tara Barry, Sophia Giglio, Jacqueline Hennelly, Caroline Higgins, Shantal Kash and Cara Power, came back to the school to gift a mural leading to the doors of the school library. These artists are also Girl Scouts and were given the Silver Award for reaching out to the community with their beautiful work. |

Woodglen Participates in Reflections Since 1969 the National PTA has inspired children to use their creative energy through the Reflections program. With the theme of "Diversity Means", this year was no different. Students throughout the district submitted original work in six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Musical composition, Photography and Visual arts.
The Woodglen students listed below submitted artwork and received a Certificate of Participation, along with a medal. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to express ideas and feelings in a creative form.

Nancy Khafif- Diamond Nominated for ACOR Award Nancy Khafif-Diamond, Chair of the Arts and Technology Department at North High School, has been nominated for an Arts Council of Rockland County Executive Arts Award. The nomination highlights Nancy's fine work in setting up a collaborative program between her art students at North and the Spirit program at South High School. The program, in its second year, pairs students with professionals from the art, theatre, and dance worlds.
We congratulate Ms. Khafif-Diamond on the recognition of her fine work, and wish her good luck at the award ceremony on May 17. The ceremony will take place at Rockland Community College. |
CHSN PTSA Hosts AAA New York Workshop on "The Ten Deadliest Teen Driving Mistakes" As part of the CHSN PTSA parent workshop series, on Monday, March 26, 2012 AAA New York provided a presentation on Teen Driving. More than 50 parents and teens attended and learned about different strategies and techniques that will help them become safe drivers and more importantly help them avoid becoming one of the 5600 teens that die in car accidents each year in our country.
