| Food Drive Announced: | The success of the recent clothing drive for needy families in our community has prompted a continued desire to provide added outreach. Beginning Mon., Jan. 23, boxes will be placed in each school's entryway to collect food items. They will then be brought to the District Office and distributed to our families. Our hope is to be able to provide evidence of our community's goodwill during these challenging economic times. |

| Clarkstown High School North PTSA Grants Presented | The Clarkstown High School North PTSA awarded their Innovative Learning Grants, totaling $2100 to six teachers during a reception at North on January 13th. The six applicants were awarded monetary prizes ranging from $250 to $400 after their applications were carefully reviewed and scored by a North PTSA committee. Congratulations to Akiko Uchiyama, Sabrina Riccoboni, Arlene Whittaker, Jordan Turner, Allison Borelli and Heidi Bernasconi. These funds will help fund a wide variety of activities from a Japanese music workshop to a bullying project and educational field trips. Although the CHSN PTSA could not fund all of the grant applicants, efforts are being made by the PTSA to assist those teachers in finding alternative grant opportunities or donation of supplies. Principal, Mr. Harry Leonardatos, Jordan Turner, PTSA President, Rhea Vogel, Akiko Uchiyama, Arlene Whittaker, Sabrina Riccoboni, Allison Borelli and Heidi Bernasconi. |
| Students Sail Through A Physics Project | The first annual Clarkstown Cardboard Regatta was held at Felix Festa Middle School on January 19th. This project was the culmination of a conceptual physics unit focusing on buoyancy. Students were challenged to build a boat made entirely of cardboard and duct tape that could support two students as they rowed across the FFMS pool and back. Success required a grasp of the relevant physics principles, solid planning, cooperative teamwork, and high-quality workmanship. Twelve boats, representing forty-two CHSN students, participated in the event. Nine of the 12 boats successfully completed the round trip. The successful boats were then timed on a one-way trip, with the three fastest boats competing in the medal round. Erika Gram, Zach Rose, TJ Lawrence, and Zach Newman guided "Das Boat" to a first place finish. Christine Chou, Joe Frullaney and Katherine Yao guided the second place boat, while Dynell Clement, Robert Kirby, Sean McGrath, and Louis Abreu had the third place boat. All participants and spectators enjoyed a fun-filled and spirited event while learning some physics! |
