Orchestra is Elementary The Clarkstown Elementary District Orchestra performed for parents, family members, and friends at South High School on June 10. All of the 4th grade beginning string players from the ten elementary schools opened the concert with Coronation March and Haydn Seek and then the larger District Orchestra, made up of advanced student musicians, performed Bicycle Built for Two, A Little Bit O' Latin, Nothing Major, its Only Minor, and Can Can. All of the elementary music teachers participated in the concert, which was conducted by Ms. Lydia Leizman and Mr. Larry Watson.
Congers Marching Band is Best in Show  The Congers Elementary School Marching Band, under the direction of the Congers music teacher Arlene Stadler, was selected as Best School Marching Band at the Congers Memorial Day Parade on May 29, 2010. The trophy is awarded to the top band each year by the Congers Veterans Memorial Association.
Congers Student Wins Earth Day Contest Caroline Devin, fifth grader at Congers Elementary School, was one of six winners of the 19th Annual Eleanor Burlingham Earth Day Contest. One hundred and fifty-one students from seven schools submitted essays for the contest. Winners were honored and given certificates on June 2nd at the Allison-Parris County Office Building.

Lakewood Lets The MATH Games Begin! Mrs. Kim Aylward, school secretary, announced over the speaker, "Let the games begin!" while music teacher Mr. Andrew Pease played the Olympic overture on his trumpet in the background. The mood set, Lakewood's 5th graders hosted the first annual "Math-lympics." Under the guidance of math teacher Mrs. Christine Lafferty and teaching assistant Mrs. Noreen Krychear, students created activities for the rest of the student body to practice math in an entertaining and engaging way. Mathematical operations, number sense, measurement, and fractions were among the many topics covered within game-like activities such as "Shop 'til you Drop," and "Number-line Hopscotch." Math can, indeed, be fun!
Wellness at Woodglen - "Meal or No Meal" On June 10, Woodglen held its first Wellness Fair chaired by parent Ms. Roxana Shaw. Experts came together to teach students the importance of nutrition and physical fitness. Woodglen students had fun practicing Yoga and Karate and learning how they can eat healthy and keep their bones strong. Summer safety tips and lyme disease prevention were also on the agenda. The nutrition challenge game "Meal or No Meal" was a highlight of the day. The program concluded with a healthy snack of watermelon. Thanks to all the volunteers for sharing their wellness expertise.
