North High School Graduation Ceremony

  ©sgrace
The Clarkstown North graduation, scheduled for June 26 at North, will be modeled after college graduations where white folding chairs are used for family members rather than bleachers.
At the May 7, 2009 Board meeting, the Board of Education voted to approve a bleacher lease for North High's field.  However, after examining the costs of the bleacher rental and knowing the rental requires further cost over the summer while the bleachers will not be used, the District instead opted for a much less expensive option saving approximately $25,000.
Bleachers will be in place at North in time for the fall athletic season.

School Budget Vote and Special Board of Education Meeting
The 2009-2010 school budget was defeated last Tuesday by a vote of 49.44% to 50.56%. Proposition No. 2, authorizing the establishment of a Capital Reserve Fund, passed by a margin of 52.62% to 47.38%.

The Board of Education will hold a special session on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 8:00 pm in the Main Board Room at Chestnut Grove to discuss options for funding the school district next year.

Board of Education Election
Congratulations to newly elected school board members Doug Katz, Phil DeGaetano and Donna Ehrenberg. The three will begin their terms of service on July 2, 2009.

CCSD Teachers Have Positive "IMPACT" on Education
Our District is proud to announce that six Clarkstown teachers have merited the honor of winning a Westchester/Rockland IMPACT II Developer Award for 2008-9. The award honors innovative teachers who create exemplary classroom-based programs. Winning projects are particularly outstanding in that all applicants are required to demonstrate how their program supports the New York State Learning Standards and aligning performance indicators. The teachers were honored at an awards ceremony on May 14, 2009. Each received an Impact II Developer Grant.  Congratulations to all.
