Clarkstown Education Foundation Presents the First Annual Student Scholarships and Teacher Mini-Grants at the June 12 Board of Education Meeting
 

The Clarkstown Education Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its first annual $1,000 student scholarships and $500 teacher mini-grants, presented at last evening's Board of Education Meeting 
 
Clarkstown High School North Student Scholarship Winners 
  • 1st Place  Alexandra Atzl -  $1,000
    (Attending Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall) 
  • 2nd Place Laurie Stern - $1,000
    (Attending Penn State University in the fall)

Clarkstown High School South Student Scholarship Winners

  • 1st Place Matthew Negrin - $1,000
    (Attending Cornell University in the fall)  
  • 2nd Place Lauren Bosso - $1,000    
    (Attending Brown University in the fall)

Teacher Grant Winners

The student scholarships were selected based upon their responses to the essay question, "How has technology improved your learning in Clarkstown and what impact do you foresee technology having on society in the future?" Teacher grants were selected based upon the quality of ideas proposed for the creation of SMART Board programming designed to enhance curriculum.

The Clarkstown Education Foundation is an independent not-for-profit organization with tax-exempt status pending. Its primary purpose is to provide funding for educational projects and activities which are neither in the curriculum nor within the scope of the school operating budget and include:
  • Supporting the Clarkstown Central School District's enhanced technology for students and staff;
  • Providing scholarships to Clarkstown High School graduates;
  • Awarding professional grants to Clarkstown educators to support new or established projects.

The Clarkstown Education Foundation was founded in 2007 to support educational excellence. The Foundation provides an avenue for business and community members as well as school district personnel and alumni to enhance the education process. Its success depends primarily on the contributions of residents, businesses, and others interested in supporting the Clarkstown Central School District.

 
Student Board of Education Representatives Recognized
 
At the Board Of Education meeting last night, the Board bid farewell to two graduating seniors,
Mallika Vastre of Clarkstown North High School, and Rachel Lipson of Clarkstown South. Both of these students gave of their time to play an important role, representing their respective school's interest on the Board of Education.
 
For the duration of this school year, they joined the Board for all meetings, sharing the views of their fellow students and updating the Board and the public on issues of importance at North and South. Each was also a member of the Student Advisory Council, attending monthly meeting with the superintendent and school administrators.  Each of these accomplished young women will be off to college in the Fall, with Mallika attending American University and Rachel joining Harvard's freshman class. 
 
As a thank you and recognition, each was presented with a certificate of achievement, a gift from the Board, and a sweatshirt from their perspective University's from the Superintendent. Most importantly, they received thanks and respect for their volunteer efforts.
