Greetings!
Friends of the Smokies needs your help! The NC Senate will end its work for 2012 VERY soon. Please call your senator TODAY and ask that he or she urge the Senate leadership to take up the full-color plate bill, HB 1035, NOW. This bill was unanimously approved by the state House of Representatives. Do it TODAY to help us protect Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
We know we keep asking, and if you've already made your voice heard with your legislators and the House Transportation Committee, we sincerely thank you. Now please ask your Senators to bring HB 1035 to the Senate floor for a vote- visit our website for simple language you can use.
If you've been a Friend of the Smokies for very long, then you know we don't usually send you emails asking you to contact your lawmakers. And trust us, we'd much rather be telling you about how buying this license plate helps bears, heals hemlocks, and educates kids about fish, elk, otters, rocks, and trees in the Smokies...
But existing North Carolina law threatens how much we can give to the Park every year. The law says that our Friends of the Smokies plate, like the ones that support the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation will GO AWAY in 2015. Forever. If that law is not repealed, everyone in North Carolina will have the same license plate with sea oats and an airplane.
The 2012 GENERAL ASSEMBLY IS IN SESSION RIGHT NOW. Your senators need to hear that this plate matters to you, to your friends, to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and to all of those bears, elk, fish, otters, trees and children.
Please ask your state senators to urge the Senate leadership to take up the full color plate bill, HB 1035, NOW and repeal an end to full-color specialty plates.
