Mothers' Center in the Spotlight
Staff and board members bonded with members of the Mothers' Center of Southwest Nassau while visiting last winter. Forming relationships and successfully communicating one's joys and challenges in a confidential, nonjudgmental way is the backbone of a Mothers' Center community. Yet often, effective communication can be challenging. Have you ever felt misunderstood? Read more about this struggle and offer your own communication solutions in a comment by visiting the Mothers Central Blog post: When Words Get in the Way. Join us each month as we highlight a different local Mothers' Center across the nation. Don't have a Mothers' Center near you? On the International Front International Mothers' Center Day is a day to celebrate and honor the global MC network. On 10-10-12 we acknowledge the unique qualities of each program as well as the work and dedication of all the mothers throughout the world who are helping make our families, communities and the world a better place by addressing mothers' needs. Brand new Mothers' Center in Togo is being welcomed by the international MC network. Prudence Byetkola Naboud made quick work to gather a group of women in her home country of Togo together and secured a space with the help of the local church. We wish her and all the new Mothers' Center members the best as they grow this invaluable resource for the women and families of Togo. International Day of the Girl is a movement to speak out against gender bias and advocate for girls' rights everywhere. It will be celebrated every year on October 11- which happens to be Eleanor Roosevelt's birthday! To learn more, click here.
