How is your summer going?  We hope you are enjoying time off with family, fun vacation spots and that you are finding lots of ways to keep cool this summer.  May we recommend some enjoyable reading at Mothers Central, our NAMC Blog? Every week, Kate, our newest NAMC staff member, writes a new post that every mother and father can probably relate to. We love reading your comments and being able to share every parent's struggles and successes in parenting.

Enjoy this issue of the NAMC eNews and, as always, let us know what you think.

Birth to Five Acknowledged in the Education Continuum by Court Decision
Mothers with baby

For the first time, a court in the United States acknowledged the importance of children from birth to the age of five in the education continuum.

North Carolina Superior Court Judge Howard Manning, Jr. issued the first court ruling that speaks to the pivotal role early education plays in allowing at-risk children to avail themselves of their right to a sound basic education. He issued the ruling earlier this week.

The message that a court has confirmed the importance of ages zero to five in a child's development really speaks to the importance of the work mothers do every day under various and challenging circumstances.  This time of life for a child is critical to their future development.

New Moon Girls Now Offers a Sister to

Sister ProgramNMG Sarah

Middle school can be a stressful experience for teenage girls for a lot of reasons.  Part of that stress comes from other students.  Sarah Manavis, former New Moon Girls member, remembers what it's like, so she started the Sister to Sister mentoring program through New Moon Girls to help teenage girls handle the pressures and challenges they will inevitably face.  She and two other high school girls have teamed up to interact with younger girls and help them address issues like bullying, boys, body image, drinking and smoking a in a safe, healthy way.
