Greetings!   Moms girls

We are so thrilled to share the success and camaraderie we experienced at our second annual Mile for Mothers Walk!  It was a great way to prepare for Mother's Day and support the work that mothers of all walks of life do every day.  Be sure to visit our website for pictures and updates.  And visit our Mothers Central Blog to read the experiences of mothers and share your own stories.

On behalf of the staff, board and volunteers of NAMC, we wish all mothers a very Happy Mother's Day!

Best wishes,

Linda Lisi Juergens

A Mother's Quest for the Perfect Stage

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."

~ Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

I could NOT agree more. Isn't EVERY stage the "best of times" and the "worst of times?"

My kids are age 16-months, four and a half and age eight (going on eighteen). I am very curious, what is the best age? What stage is the worst? And what do I have to look forward to or be terrified by as my children grow? What do you think? Is there a perfect age and an ideal stage?

Breast PumpMothers Sharing Breast Milk

More women are researching what is best for their babies and a greater precentage are choosing mother's milk.  Unfortunately, not every new mother can feed her baby successfully from her own milk.  Other mothers are stepping up to help in ways that seem a bit unconventional in modern times, but were once a very common way of life.

Read more in this Washington Post article "Mothers share breast milk via Internet groups despite FDA concerns."

International Mothers' Centers

The NAMC is connected to an international network of Mothers Centers in 33 countries around the world.  While they don't all look like the Mothers' Centers in the U.S., they all are run by mothers, for mothers and address issues that mothers are concerned with.  Women are welcomed with their children, provide support for each other and work toward making their communities more family friendly and responsive to the needs of families.

The NAMC's Mile for Mothers is connected to an international Mile for Mothers campaign and our walk on April 30th was the first in a series of Mile for Mothers that will be held in various countries in 2011.  The most current newsletter from mine (Mothers Center International Network for Empowerment) includes an announcement about a new Mothers Center that just opened in Hungary, news from centers in Italy and Germany, and a article about our Mothers Central Blog.  Read the newsletter here.
