"With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is the foundation of integrity." - Keshavan Naur

Greetings!

I want to share something with you that has stuck with me since I heard it last summer - I wasn't hearing it for the first time, but I was hearing it in an environment and situation that made it as powerful as if it was the first time.

"Honor Yourself."

So simple. So clear. A direct call to action. Right? Not always. At least not always so easy. And yet, it may be the most imperative call to action that I have heard recently. The reason is this: That compassion and loving kindness for ones self seems to me the only way to be able to radiate it out into the world. That was Pam Lindsay, one of our brilliant teachers, who said that. We were talking about creating a studio t-shirt so it had to be simple and clear and make an impact. The t-shirt hasn't manifested quite yet, but it has already made an impact, on me. It has made an impact on how I walk into the studio, teach my classes and interact with both the teachers and students there.

The reason I wanted to mention it today is because we here at the studio are always thinking of creative ways to give you, our students, more of what you want. We ask ourselves how to better serve your needs, suit your schedules, your finances and keep the space safe and welcoming. The task never ends and we love that. But we can't do that if we don't honor ourselves in the process.

So, for all of us the task is this:  To ask ourselves how we can be gentle and be compassionate with ourselves so that as we walk through the world, in and out of the studio, our homes, our lives we can be the best example of honoring ourselves and that reflects toward everyone else - all of us sharing the same experience of being alive.

Here are some thoughts on how to get started:

* Cut yourself some slack - Practice starting over again and again and again.

* Start from where you are - If you are sitting in your chair and want to get to the door you can't will yourself to be at the door. You first have to be in your chair, then stand and then take a step.

* Be kind to yourself - Sometimes it's nice to make a list of the things you appreciate about yourself. I know it seems silly, but it definitely puts a smile on your face (and it is quite a challenge sometimes). And if you can't do it then ask a friend. This is surprisingly liberating and heart warming. A dear friend of mine did it recently and couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was.

Well, that's it. A little thought. A string to follow.

I hope you are all well and thriving. We'll see you soon.
