In addition to offering you discounts and news via our newsletter, we here at Interpreter Education Online also enjoy giving you the chance to win free stuff with our contests!

This month, we are having a "Name Our Course" contest.  We'd like to rename our Basic 3-Unit course.  As many of you know, there's nothing basic about interpreting.  With that said,  we feel that the name of our 3-Unit course needs a makeover in order to reflect this.

Our Basic (3-unit) Course prepares you to approach the career of legal interpretation equipped with fundamental skills and knowledge. This course consists of exercises and chapters on the

following:

* the U.S. legal system

* Criminal Procedures

* Interpreter role and Code of Ethics

* Interpretation theory

* Skill-building practical exercises

The course consists of 3 units and is expected to be completed in 6 to 8 weeks.

Now, with previous contests, we were overjoyed with the number of creative entries we received and we would like to feel that way again! If we choose  your suggestion, you will win a free linguistic resource from our bookstore.

Please email your entries to:

The contest ends November 2nd.  We look forward to your submissions!

Interpreter has asylum bid rejected

An Afghan man who was badly injured by a bomb while working for UK forces as an interpreter has been told he cannot stay in Britain, it was reported.

Mohammed Rafi Hottak, 25, was told in a letter from the UK Border Agency that his asylum application was being rejected because insufficient proof had been provided that he had worked with British forces, and his claims of death threats from Taliban insurgents were "not accepted".

Symbols tell grave tale

TO many, the carvings on gravestones are little more than decoration, but for Tracey Olivieri and Christopher Dawson they are a dying language.

The pair have written a book about the carvings on headstones in the Ipswich Cemetery. Their book, In Heavenly Garb, details the many different symbols and designs in the cemetery.

France to ban 'mother' and 'father' in all legal terminology

 As with most of the jurisdictions that have adopted "gay marriage," France will be changing the language of its laws and regulations related to marriage and parenthood to eliminate the terms "mother" and "father". All references to mothers and fathers, the government has said, will be changed to "parents".
