Greetings! |
The small nation of Haiti has been in our focus for more than ten years now. With so much of the population of Haitians living with so little, and being located so close, nearly in America's own backyard, how could we ignore the plight of those desperate for basic needs?
It is the innocent children born into this bleak existence that we strive to provide the tools for a better outcome in life. Education in Haiti MATTERS GREATLY!! This is the focus of this e-letter. |

| Haitian Educational System - A NEW School Opening In Haiti! | The following internet article describes the Haitian educational system and why Brother Lee Sullivan has been providing education for underprivileged Haitian children for over 30 years. He does not, nor ever has charged fees or tuition for any of his schools throughout these many years; most parents couldn't afford it anyway. That's why your giving is so important! Your faithful investment in the ministry in Haiti helps prepare a child for life through Christian education.
"The earthquake of January 12, 2010, destroyed most of the elementary and high schools in Port-au-Prince and its surrounding areas. Rebuilding them will cost tens of millions, since about 85% of Haitian schools are privately operated.
Theoretically, the 1987 Constitution provides for a free, public education for Haitian children. The reality, however, is that most students, however, do not get a free public education as only 15% of the schools are run by the government. The government has never had the resources to develop a comprehensive system of education for its citizens. 85% of Haitian schools are private schools which charge fees for their services. Most of these are operated by religious institutions with the Roman Catholic Church having the most schools.
The fees which families have to pay include the tuition fees, book fees, fees for supplies and uniforms. With the average annual family income less than $500, many Haitian families simply cannot afford to educate their children." ** Article taken from: http://privateschool.about.com/od/schoolsonlineworldwide/qt/haitianschools.htm
