Earth Ministry's Celebration

St. Francis Creation Care
Saturday, October 2, 2010; 4-6pm,
Olympic Community Church

You are invited to come and enjoy Earth Ministry's 3rd Annual Creation Care Sermon Contest. Earth Ministry received inspiring sermons from across the United States and their panel of judges narrowed down the entries to four finalists. Each of the four finalists will preach his or her 8-10 minute sermon on October 2. The sermon contest is a fundraiser to support the religious environmental work of Earth Ministry. Event admission is free, but to select the winner we will ask you to vote with your dollars-a donation that supports the work of Earth Ministry and is tax deductible. During the Celebration, members of Earth Ministry's thirty-six Greening Congregations (including Grace) will be honored for their greening work. The sermon contest will be followed by a heavy hors d'oeuvres reception.

Bainbridge Island Watershed Council
A few years ago several of us from Grace drove down to Port Orchard to watch returning salmon.  Seeing that instinctual behavior in spite of the fish being so spent is a sight that goes straight to the heart.  The City of Bainbridge Island needs a couple more volunteers to help with the annual salmon monitoring program described below. Training will be held this Saturday, Oct 2.
For more information, please go to the BI Watershed website.

Zedashe Ensemble
Folk music & Dance from the Republic of Georgia
Grace Church,
Saturday, October 2, 7:30 pm

Zedashe Ensemble Poster

Hailing from the Republic of Georgia, the Zedashe Ensemble presents a concert of traditional Georgian music, both secular and religious featuring the (ancient) haunting three-part harmony unique to the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia. Returning for their third US tour, Zedashe Ensemble will perform in eight states across the country to commemorate the upcoming 20th anniversary of Georgian independence with an evening of song and dance. In addition to the collection and preservation of songs, Zedashe is also dedicated to documenting the context in which the songs were traditionally sung and maintaining the threads which bound song and dance to every-day life. Zedashe's tour is organized by Village Harmony, a world music umbrella organization, and it is sponsored by a generous grant from the Trust for Mutual Understanding which promotes cultural exchange between the US and Eastern European artists.

to rebuild special needs facility in Port-au-Prince

It's been nine months since the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. But the physical and psychological rubble left by the natural disaster lingers for some of the country's most needy, namely the young people who rely on the St. Vincent's Center for Handicapped Children School and Medical Facility.

To support the children and restore their hope and dignity, the Diocese of Olympia, Diocese of Louisiana and St. Paul's Episcopal Church (Lakeview), New Orleans, announced a new partnership with the Red Thread Promise, a 501(c)(3) organization based in New Orleans. READ MORE
