Shine the LIght

If you drop by the church office next week, you may find the place positively buzzing with energy. Our Shine the Light Summer Camp will be taking place Tuesday, July 27th through Friday, July 30th, 9am-12noon. The camp is officially full with about 65 children attending! Parents of campers should have received a letter earlier this month with all the details. Our camp will end on Friday with a short program at 11:30 in the Sanctuary, followed by a celebration cook out on the patio. All are welcome to attend the closing program and cook out. Come see what our campers learned during their week at Grace. And please keep our campers and especially all the wonderful volunteers in your prayers this week.

The Office - and This Coming Week at Grace

Summer is here and the Grace office is enjoying a little slower pace. Staff is taking some time for family vacations and just relaxing around the house. Many of our Grace programs are on vacation as well.  One exception is Shine the Light Week - July 27 through July 30. The Grace hallways, classrooms, Walker Hall and outside area will be filled with 60+ smiling children enjoying all the festivities organized by Debbie Rimkus and her volunteers.

During this special week, calls coming in to Grace from 9am to 12pm will go directly to voicemail.
Sarah Rimkus will be checking messages and emails in the afternoon while Candee is on vacation (7/22-8/1.)

Please Note: This Wednesday, July 28, there is no Prayer Service & Bible Study.

Summer Pilgrim Journey

A dream of Bill Harper's came true in 2005 when we went into the wilderness for 12 days with the first group of Grace high school youth. We've taken many more trips since then and are now preparing for this year's Wilderness Pilgrimage.

Each year some of the Pilgrims are able to work to help cover the cost of the trip. Grace parishioners have hired Pilgrims to do yard work, painting, food prep for parties..... You name it, they've done it.

This year there is even a fluent french speaker and a guitarist in a local rock band. The kids listed below are on the island during July and ready to work!

Please consider calling these guys for your summer projects. They are great!

Grace Church Retreat, Fort Worden State Park
October 22-24, 2010

After a year's hiatus, we will gather once again for a weekend at Fort  Worden for the all-church retreat, October 22-24. Thinking of going? Then you'll want to jump on it now because this popular event has limited capacity and fills quickly.  Registration for the retreat is well underway, and this year we have begun a new tradition with on-line registration. You may also register during coffee hour after the 9:30 am service on Sundays. Look for more details in the summer issue of our Grace newsletter and on our website at gracehere.org/parish life.

Bring Extra Cheer with Little Bouquets from your Garden

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (IVC):  IVC has a pressing need for more volunteers who can devote modest amounts of time to help our elderly or frail or vulnerable neighbors to remain independent and in their own homes, and to maintain dignity and quality of life.  Take someone to the doctor, shopping, banking, or running various errands.  Visit someone who may be lonely.  Help with some minor chores.  Do what you like to do when you want or have time to do it!  Call IVC for details at 842.4441. Right now, during the summer, please take cut flowers from your garden to Eagle Harbor Congregational Church's doorstep, and volunteers will create little bouquets with them and give them to our neighbors who are home-bound and need some extra cheer.

Help Wanted:

· Grace's Food Basket Sunday program needs your family's support. We collect canned/dry goods for Helpline House, so always welcome your contribution. Our program also seeks additional support: taking these goods to Helpline House on a monthly basis.

· It is Grace's turn to serve The UCC Suquamish's Community Kitchen meal this month.  Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 28th to either cook, serve, clean...but most certainly eat a great dinner as well.
