Summer Camp
Registration Shine the Light Week almost Full! July 27 - 30th, 9am to noon
Registration is almost complete for
Shine the Light Week, with only a few spots remaining. Our week of
summer camp fun takes place July 27-30, from 9am-12noon for Shine
the Light camp and 9am-1:30pm for Photography Camp. Shine the Light is
available to children who have completed at least one year of preschool
through fourth grade.
Rising
5th graders and above can register now for our Photography and Cooking
Camp. Colleen Rain returns again this year to lead this group as they
spend a little time as "camp counselors" for Shine the Light and then
turn their attention and cameras to photography. Once our Shine the
Light campers have left for the day, our Photography campers will take
over the Grace kitchen and prepare their own gourmet lunch. Cost of the
camp is $25 per child for the week.

The Rt. Rev. Greg Rickel Visits Grace
An "Episcopal Visitation" can sound like a quite formal
affair. Or maybe a haunting from
affected, English ghosts! In fact,
as Nedi Rivera taught us, it's really a time of celebration, inspiration and
dancing! So when Bishop Rickel
visits on Sunday, June 27th, we should expect something grand,
graceful and great. And it will be
all that-with some genuine formal touches as well.
Greg will preach and celebrate at both services, and will indeed
be spending the weekend on Bainbridge with his family. It turns out that the 27th
is also his birthday, and so Grace his gifting his family with a weekend at the
Vineyard Inn, with some Island adventures planned. After the services on Sunday Doug and Cassie Picha are
graciously hosting a brunch for our Trustees (the Bishop's Committee) and
partners where we look forward to talking with Greg about the future calling
and mission of Grace.
A Bishop's visit is, in fact, a central part of both
tradition and identity in the Episcopal Church. As such, the liturgy and our worship for those visits usual
include a chance to for us to honestly, and publicly, affirm our faith-and even
to say, with confidence and hope, that we identify ourselves as Christians Folk
in the Episcopal tradition. Many
of the people who participated in our Lenten Evenings this year indicated a
desire to be received into the Episcopal Church when Greg is here. If you would like to join in that
process please let Bill Harper and Candee Heald know. Bill will be hosting a conversational dinner at Grace on
Tuesday, June 22nd, from 6:30-9-and during dinner we will talk about
this natural and good "public proclamation" of faith. If you attended the Lenten program and still want to step out
and forth (and even if you didn't attend, but now feel inspired) please let us know.

Dare to Dream Grace Church Retreat, Fort Worden State Park October 22-24, 2010
Summer is still a bit of a dream, so do we dare think ahead to fall now? Well, in this case, it might actually be fun! After a years hiatus, we will gather once again for a weekend at Fort Worden for the all-church retreat, October 22-24.
Registration for the retreat will begin June 13th. This year we will begin a new tradition, on-line registration. You can also register during coffee hour, in the Narthex. A friendly face with treats and a laptop will greet you and take care of your registration right then and there. You can find more details in the summer issue of our Grace newsletter and on our website at gracehere.org/parish life.

Finance: Pledge Statement Update
Now that we're getting toward the mid-point in the calendar year, it's a convenient time for many people to start asking "how we're doing" with our individual operating and capital pledges to Grace. To help with that, Grace typically sends financial statements at the end of the first quarter showing gifts made through the end of March. This year, we have been transferring our pledge tracking system over into a new bookkeeping software. Because the transition was not yet complete, we did not send first quarter statements this year. Statements for the second quarter (showing gifts made January through June) will be prepared in July. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like a personal accounting of your pledge. The information is readily available, and we would like to help you plan your giving. Through the end of April, approximately one-third of our total estimated operating pledge income had been paid. Thank you very much for your generous gifts to Grace. Jenny Lange Pledge Secretary

Please welcome WWIN Executive Director Deborah Cushing on the 6th, who will give an overview of WWIN at the classroom side of the sanctuary following the service.
HELP WANTED: Grace Outreach is looking for students in need of service hours or anyone simply wishing to help out. We are organizing a small group to collect/split/stack firewood 1-2 times this summer for folks who rely on it as their only heat source. Mskruse12@gmail.com or 842.8910. |
