Lenten Evenings

Erica Grimm Vance Liminal State

a Grace Soul School Event

A Simple Meal & Honest Conversation

Tuesdays in Lent, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm,
Includes light supper

This year the focus of our Tuesday evenings in Lent will be: Re-Membering Grace: Believing, Belonging, Membering and Serving. These evenings of presentations and conversation, lead by Bill Harper, will invite us to talk about belonging together and belonging to Grace. Whether Grace has been your home for many years, or just for a few weeks, these evenings will bring both information and inspiration. We'll learn about each other, Grace Church, the Episcopal Church, and even the Great Big, World Wide Anglican Community. We'll start each night with soup at 6:30, and the program will begin at 7 and end with Compline at 8:30.

Tuesday, March 9: Belonging (do I?)
Tuesday, March 16: Membering (joining? Really?)
Tuesday, March 23: Serving (believing is doing)

The Nuts & Bolts of Estate Planning estate planning
Sunday, March 21, 2 - 3:30 pm

On Sunday, March 21 at 2:00 pm, Bainbridge attorney Karen Bertram will present an interactive seminar, "The Nuts and Bolts of Estate Planning" at Grace. Karen has practiced estate law for nineteen years and is eager to discuss any questions you may have about your life plan.

Who needs an estate plan? Virtually everyone. In the absence of a will or guardian document for example, the state will assume control and may make decisions that don't reflect your wishes. If you've been putting off making a will or need help revising existing documents, please consider joining us.

RSVP to Candee Heald in our office at 842.9997, [email protected], please let her know if you need childcare during this event. Hope to see you on the 21st!

Teach Me to PrayBerit Ringo House of Cherub
A Conversation for Children

March 9, 3:30-4:30 pm

For two Tuesdays in Lent, our Vicar, Bill Harper will spend an hour talking with your children about prayer. We'll talk about why we pray. About where we can pray. About how we can pray. And we'll enjoy a snack as we practice a prayer of thanksgiving.

While the children enjoy time in the Sanctuary with the Vicar, plan to stay and enjoy a tea time just for the parents. Tea sandwiches, fruit and a sweet or two will be available in the Living Room as you take time to visit with one another.

Faithful Parenting: Being Good and Doing Good

With Bill Harper and Debbie Rimkus

Sunday, March 21st, 4pm-6pm

We have spent some time exploring how to encourage a life of faith in our children, and how to keep healthy, loving relationships with our children and our partners. This month we look at "goodness". Each of us has hopes and dreams for our children. We work hard to raise children who are "good". And we try to be "good" ourselves as adults. But is being good enough? How do we teach our children to not only be good, but to go into the world and do good. We will start our afternoon in Walker Hall with some light refreshments and time to connect and then move into the Sanctuary at 4:30 for our discussion. A great group of teens and some special activities will be available for the children in the Living Room.

Left to think of a direction and a decision. So many amazing things await you in the future but its up to you to specify the avenue. Where to go and how to get there? One foot in front of the other and behold the sight at the end of the path...

Come to your senses.

Rely on each other.
Go someplace new.
We go at a comfortable pace.
We enjoy being there as much as getting there.

A World of GoodA World of Good
Grace Grant Partners in Action
1st Sunday Outreach meeting. "1st Sunday" Outreach meeting.  You are invited to join the Grace Outreach Committee for our next monthly meet in the sanctuary directly following the March 7th 9:30 am service. Our discussion will include: a review of the updated 2010 Grace Outreach grant application; a Grace Garden update/planning discussion; and further discussion of how best to support Haitian relief efforts.  Please bring ideas for expanding Grace's positive impact in our community or to learn details about any planned outreach events.

Peacock Family Center's Ribbon Cutting Celebration.  Attend the formal opening of Peacock's family resource and child care center (305 Madison Ave.; behind Big Star Diner) at 11 am on Sunday, March 14.  Peacock's mission is to promote the healthy social and emotional development of children by providing nurturing child care, open play and enrichment within a community of support for parents and caregivers.  Peacock Family Center is a "community of care under one roof", whose success is in part a result of your financial support of Grace's outreach efforts.

Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers ("IVC").  Kaycie Wood from IVC will be available following the March 14, 9:30 am service for us to learn more about all the great work they do in the B.I. community. Please give her a warm welcome!

Streets of Seattle.  Join Barb McAllister, Rose Goodhue & Co. on the 7:10 pm ferry to Seattle on March 18 for the next Streets of Seattle event. This Grace tradition involves serving dinner under I-5; folks usually return on the 9PM boat.  Contact Barb at [email protected] to learn more about participating in this outreach program.

Firewood.  Do you have spare firewood on your property?  The chances are good that someone within a few miles of your house needs it.  While not environmentally ideal, many Bainbridge Islanders' sole heat supply necessarily comes from their fireplace.  Contact Mark Kruse at [email protected] to learn how to most easily help keep others warm through this winter.

Grace Garden Days.  Have you ever walked up to the Grace Garden?  This local Grace Outreach grant partner has provided hundreds of pounds of organic produce to Helpline, but requires our more direct involvement to achieve this.  Please mark Sundays March 21st & April 18th as "Grace Garden Days", when we will prepare the garden for another amazing yield of produce this year. Let's go to the garden, connect with the land and each other.  Further Garden Day details are forthcoming, but also contact Katy Wing or Colleen Austin to learn how to serve this hands-on food program!

Salish Sea Expeditions is holding A Night at the Races, their annual dinner and auction on March 20th.  This Grace grant partner provides innovative marine science education programs for children of all income levels.  Please call Salish at 206.780.7848 to learn more about supporting their efforts.
