WT Contract Procurement Center Under Construction

The (soon-to-be finished) CPC offices.

Does your business sell chocolate truffles, disable nuclear bombs or provide interior decorating consulting? Local, state and federal governments contract to purchase all of these things any many more. Our office is excited to announce the opening of the new WT Contract Procurement Center. This center will assist with registering and matching you with available contracts free of charge.

Rick Palmer, the newly appointed Program Manager, brings over 30 years of contracting experience to the CPC and will assist you through the entire contracting process, including registering as a HUB business and minority or veteran owned business. These designations can assist with receiving government contracts, but almost every small business owner is eligible.

The CPC has access to and provides:
  • consulting
  • bid matching
  • workshops
  • market research
  • reference materials
  • database of available contracts
  • project plans

The process of registering and applying for government contracts can be daunting, but Rick is here to provide help and walk you through each step. If you're interested in learning more about contracting please consider attending the CPC's Procurement Luncheon on January 19th. It's free of charge (you purchase lunch off of the menu) and is a great way to learn more about how contracting works and meet others in our area who've  received these contracts.

Student Entrepreneur Scholarship

Are you a college student doing double duty as an entrepreneur? If so, you may be exactly what the Lendio Brock Blake Student Entrepreneur of the Year scholarship committee is looking for when awarding their $2500 scholarship.

Lendio is a company that matches small businesses with available financing. Brock Blake, Lendio CEO, once won a similar scholarship that helped him start his successful career and he established this scholarship in hopes of giving back to another young entrepreneur.

"It allowed me to focus on academics and our startup without the worry of a part-time, low-paying job. At the end of the day, I hope this scholarship will give future entrepreneurs the edge they need to be successful," Blake said.

Click {here} to read more about the scholarship and requirements. Good luck!

Quirky

Have an idea for a new product, but don't have the time or funds for research and development? That's where Quirky comes in. Quirky brands itself as a "social product development" company.

What do they do? It's pretty simple:

Submit your idea via their website - Registered users vote on your idea - Every week the top five designs are selected to be evaluated by staff - One of these products will be chosen to go into production - As the inventor, YOU receive a commission of the sales with no money out of pocket other than the $10 fee to submit an idea

New Years Reminders

Social Security Tax - The social security payroll tax cut has been extended for another two months. The current rate is 4.2% and if no additional extension is agreed upon by February 29th, it will be raised to 6.2%.

Workplace Poster - Many employers will soon be required to display a new Employee Rights Notice poster in the workplace. The requirement will go into effect April 30th and applies to most private sector employers. The poster can be downloaded {here} or you can stop by our office and we'll print the poster on 11x17 paper free of charge.
