In today's world of doing business, potential clients skip right over the phone book when looking for you and go straight to the internet. It's imperative that your business have a website that not only appears professional, but one that will show up in relevant searches.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of using the best techniques possible to increase your search engine rank. Below are some tips from Elance on how to maximize your search results:

1. The Power of Links
Have as many links to your website on other websites as possible. These are known as "backlinks" or "inbound links."

2. Page Titles
Give your page titles clear wording and make sure they're keyword rich.

3. Page Descriptions
Just link your page title, make sure your page description, the non bold text under the page title in a search, is heavy with keywords.

4. Maximize Page Content
Use the power of keywords in the text of your entire webpage.

5. More Pages = More Juice
More pages means more material to be indexed and searched, raising your chances of being located in a relevant search.
