Success Story
JJ's Resale

JJ Wilbur (Teresa not pictured)

JJ Wilbur is a familiar and welcome face around Canyon and his love of everything Elvis along with his friendly personality have made him widely known and loved.

When area Goodwills recently closed their doors, special needs students from across the area lost many jobs. Teresa took the opportunity to open her own thrift store in Canyon, with the encouragement and help of her friend Luz Woolsey. She is now able to employ her own son JJ who has Down Syndrome, as well as other special needs students in the area who benefit from the work.

JJ's many friends from the area stop by regularly to say hello and shop the store and JJ, Teresa and Luz are busy, even staying open late many nights to accommodate shoppers. Please stop by and pay JJ a visit if you're in the area. You'll leave with a new friend and some great items!

Fire Safety for Small Businesses

Last month we talked about business licenses and what types of licenses are required for small businesses. There was a great deal of interest in the topic and we had some questions about other requirements for small businesses. This month we asked the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office to let all of you know what kinds of requirements they have for your business.

Did you know that you and your employees can personally be fined up to $2,000 for violations of the fire code at your business? Or that you must have a Certificate of Occupancy displayed in your business before you can open?

Fire code is an important but sometimes overlooked part of a business and compliance is usually simple once you know exactly what you need to do for your business.

Click here to read the article written by the Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office to learn what you need to do to ensure your business is in compliance.
