Karen was an attendee of The Franchise Seminar (now known as Business Boot Camp) and contacted the SBDC for assistance starting a specialized running store in Amarillo.
The SBDC conducted research to help determine if the business would be viable in our area. In addition to research the SBDC helped Karen with her business plan and financial projections and helped her determine which legal structure would be best.
Located in a beautiful new store at I-40 & Georgia, Get Fit has become a quick success among serious runners in the Amarillo area. The store sells top of the line running apparel and they specialize in helping runners select the shoe that's best for their needs. Business:

9 Things to Remember When Starting a Business
by: Charles & Annette Black
We recently asked our readers to submit their advice for other small business owners. We received some great information and this article was written especially for us for a former SBDC client!
1. Do a marketing analysis to determine the need for your business. A swimsuit business in Nome, Alaska might not prove very viable.
2. Put a detailed business plan together. Doing so will force you to look at pros and cons of your projected income and expenses.
3. Have faith. The first few years are easier if you have a strong faith in God. Believe me, we've said many prayers!
4. Don't expect too much early on. Most businesses aren't profitable at first. The business plan you develop will let you know what kind of capital you will need to make it through the first 3 or 4 years.
