Kolache Café
Scott & Cindy Dickerson

Scott and Cindy Dickerson opened the Kolache Café in the Western Crossings Center on Memorial Day. The SBDC helped them complete their market research and provided marketing consulting.

A South Texas favorite, kolaches are pastries made from handmade dough and filled with fresh fruits, cheeses, and meats, and are a delicious new addition to the Panhandle.

The Kolache Café serves both breakfast and lunch and will take special orders and make party trays. We've sampled the kolaches and can recommend them first hand!

10 Traits of Highly Effective Twitter Users
  • Be welcoming and friendly - say hello to your new followers or folks that you would like to get to know.
  • Engage people - ask questions and respond to queries that interest you.
  • Be humorous - funny tweets really help to break up the timeline.
  • Inform - provide useful information and news items.
  • Regular time - tweet at a regular time and in a consistent voice.
  • Monitor self-promotion - it's fine to promote your projects and work, but nobody likes to be spammed all day.
  • Promote others - "retweet" liberally and highlight good work.
  • Link in post - link to other Twitter users that you would like to connect with in blog posts.
  • Listen - there's no need to dominate the conversation all the time, so spend some time just reading what others are saying/tweeting.
  • Be human - not always obvious but most important, being a "real" person is probably the most important trait of any effective Twitter user.

The WT SBDC is not alone. Did you know that there are nearly 1,000 SBDC's across the nation? SBDC clients across the nation are growing their small businesses, starting new businesses, saving and creating jobs, and fueling the engine of economic prosperity.

Small businesses that benefited from in-depth SBDC assistance experienced more than 17 times the job growth of average businesses (14% compared to 0.8% for U.S. businesses in general) between 2006 and 2007.

Every $1 spent on the SBDC network enabled small businesses to access $16.77 in new capital.

Small businesses that benefitted from in-depth SBDC assistance experienced sales growth of 20.2% between 2006 and 2007 -- compared to 5.2% for U.S. businesses in general.

SBDC in-depth clients generated an estimated $2.86 in Federal and state tax revenues, as a result of economic growth, for each $1 spent on the SBDC program. In other words, the SBDC program generates more revenue from economic growth than it costs to run the SBDC program.
