| Leadership Huntington May 2011 Leading Edge |
"Awesome program! Even though I lived in Huntington for 12-13 years, I was exposed to areas of our community that I knew nothing about. As a result of Leadership Huntington, I am participating in projects that are tremendously rewarding and continue to serve on committees for Leadership Huntington. My wife received a job out of my experience, and I have some life long friendships. It was a tremendously rewarding experience, personally and professionally."

JOIN THE NEXT BEST. CLASS. EVER.
Leadership is an experiential course in civics, leadership, personal and interpersonal development, grounded in the belief that the best solutions start locally with people who understand both their communities and their own vision and values. Our Flagship Program is a full community immersion bookended by 2-day retreats with nationally recognized Leadership and Team Building specialist, Craig Rider. The retreats, alone, are worth the tuition. The rest of the program is priceless.
The application and program dates are available on our website. Fill it in and mail or email it to us today. There is also a flyer that includes fresh, first hand testimonials from folks who know our program best, and class dates so you can mark your calendar now. Payment plans are available, as are partial scholarships. Tuition assistance is always needed, so if you have the capacity to make this program possible for someone, please let us know! For more information, email info@leadershiphuntington.org or call 631-470-3990. You can also reach Leadership's Program Director Trudy Fitzsimmons, directly at 516-521-3206. |
Dolan Family Health Center Requests Support Over 19 years ago, the Huntington Township Chamber Foundation, predecessor to the Leadership Huntington Foundation, was proud to be one of the entities that came together to raise over $5.5million to establish an affordable community health center aimed at making sure low and moderate-income people have access to quality health care. Unlike County-run facilities, The Dolan Family Health Center is the direct product of a community coming together to fill a need, and does it's best to keep up its own end by ensuring that its patients pay what they can, and doing a good bit of independent fundraising. While they take pride in their efforts to help pay their own way, drastic funding cuts to the portion of their budget historically covered by Suffolk County threaten their viability. While the Dolan Center is exceptionally grateful for generous capital project support from the Dolan Family Foundation and ongoing clinical support from NorthShore-LIJ, there is no ongoing operational funding coming from either of these entities, as many may have assumed. It is difficult for involved residents who are taxpayers of Huntington to envision how this community resource can sustain its mission if exclusively funded by local altruists and people of low and moderate income. The Dolan Center is seeking public support in the form of Huntington tax dollars returned to Huntington, as is done for health centers in other Long Island Towns. In return, the Dolan Family Health Center will help keep people healthy so they can contribute to the quality of life in our Town, and avoid using the emergency room as a means of primary care. Anyone deeply involved in the community knows the Dolan Family Health Center offers a great deal. For more information, please reach out to the Dolan Center, to your local County Legislators and to others involved. We'd love to hear your thoughts, and share the work individuals are doing to address this and other local healthcare challenges. |

We seek in these messages to continually thank and support the multitude of people who fuel Leadership Huntington and give this organization reason, purpose, and deep satisfaction. There's no way to ever do it all at once, but we hope you know that every bit of financial support, guidance and volunteer effort is deeply appreciated and has impact beyond what any of us can know.
We love to hear your feedback and to find out more about what our grads are up to. Please send your comments and submissions to info@leadershiphuntington.org
