"Leadership Huntington is a the only program on Long Island that pulls together folks from all segments of the community to gain skills, understand the Town and learn from each other with any level of depth. My experience at Leadership connected me with an eclectic group of community and business leaders, historic preservationists, human service and government professionals along with artists, poets and musicians.". ~ Eric Alexander, Vision Long Island

Vision joins with others to promote more liveable, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible growth on Long Island through Smart Growth. Smart Growth focuses on infill, re-development and open space preservation. It supports mixed-use, mixed-income communities that are convenient, attractive, pedestrian-friendly and make affordable housing and public transportation desirable and realistic. A key objective is to strengthen communities from the start by actively involving local stakeholders in planning.
Vision Long Island has donated tickets for every member of the Class of 2012 to attend their annual Smart Growth Summit on November 18th!!! This informative conference brings an exceptionally broad array of decision makers, experts and advocates together for a full day of networking and workshops covering diverse issues surrounding land use on Long Island. What better place to connect and learn? Thank you!!! |

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR THE CLASS OF 2012
We're rescheduling the kick-off, so there's more time to apply! Those who sell our program best are those who've been through it themselves, or who have benefitted from having employees who are Leadership Grads. So, if you know someone who would be a great asset to the program, please share this opportunity.
Leadership is a very special course in civics, leadership, personal and interpersonal development, grounded in the belief that the best solutions start locally with people who understand both their communities and their own vision and values. Our Flagship Program is a full community immersion bookended by 2-day retreats with nationally recognized Leadership and Team Building specialist, Craig Rider. The retreats, alone, are worth the tuition. The rest is priceless.
Everyone gets something different out of the program. The best we can say, is that in a world where everyone seems a mile wide and an inch deep, opportunities to build real relationships across sectors are critical. Those who can assume the responsibility of leadership; who understand the context in which they are operating and can bring people to the table; who can effectively work with different personality types, and even foster the leadership potential in their colleagues, are invaluable. Leadership has offered all of this and more for over 15 years, and we hear we've done it well. The application and program dates are available on our website. Fill it in and mail or email it to us today. Also there is a flyer that includes fresh, first hand testimonials from folks who know our program best, and class dates so you can mark your calendar now. Payment plans are available, as are partial scholarships. Tuition assistance is always needed, so if you have the capacity to make this program possible for someone, please let us know! For more information, email info@leadershiphuntington.org or call 631-470-3990. You can also reach Leadership's Program Director Trudy Fitzsimmons, directly at 516-521-3206. |

Leadership Grads Honored by LIPC
We have highlighted both of these extraordinary citizens before, but like many Leadership Grads they've earned themselves yet another mention.
Both were recently recognized at the Long Island Progressive Coalition's 32nd Annual Luncheon. Congratulations, Eco-Crusader Elisabeth Fiteni of Molloy College's Sustainability Institute for your award for "Environmental Vision in Sustainable Development" and Huntington Councilwoman Glenda Jackson (pictured here with LI Progressive Coalition Director Lisa Tyson) for being a "Long Islander who Makes a Difference." It's an honor to list you both among our alumni.
Are you a Leadership Grad doing something wonderful, critical or just plain newsworthy? Do you know one who is? Give us a call at 631-470-3990, email info@leadershiphuntington.org or just post it here! We love to spread the word!

Thank you, Carolyn Kibel and the Tasting Room for a Night of Wellness and Good Cheer!
We are ever grateful for the generous, community-oriented host, Matt Spirn who regularly offers his hospitality and good cheer. On March 23rd we were doubly blessed with a brief, funny, down-to-earth presentation on living well by Dr. Carolyn Kibel of Fabrikant Chiropractic (pictured here with her husband, Dr. Barry Fabrikant). We appreciated her common sense advice, had a great time, and hope you did, too!

By the way...All Leadership Graduates receive 10% off at the Northport Tasting Room & Wine Cellar. Matt keeps menus from local eateries under the bar, and also owns the wine shop next door, so, if you like what you taste, you can bring a bottle home!

Renewed your Membership Lately?
Leadership IS community support. We are nothing without you, and some have even suggested that your donations give angels wings. Judging by some of the amazing things our graduates are working on, we're willing to bet that's probably true. At the very least, it sure helps good people connect other good people and get a better view of our complex world. Put the pieces together and great things happen. So, renew today and donate every time the spirit moves you. We are also looking for folks who want to get more actively involved, so give us a call or talk to us at the socials! Thanks!

We seek in these messages to continually thank and support the multitude of people who fuel Leadership Huntington and give this organization reason, purpose, and deep satisfaction. There's no way to ever do it all at once, but we hope you know that every bit of financial support, guidance and volunteer effort is deeply appreciated and has impact beyond what any of us can know.
We love to hear your feedback and to find out more about what our grads are up to. Please send your comments and submissions to info@leadershiphuntington.org
Sponsorship opportunities are available
