"A leader's role is to raise people's aspirations for what they can become and to release their energies so they will try to get there."

H2M New Logo   Thank you, H2M Group!
Organized in 1933 and founded on engineering excellence, hard work and integrity, H2M is proud of its long history of client service and its consistent ability to meet tough engineering, architectural and environmental challenges.

We at Leadership Huntington are grateful for H2M's commitment to community, and it's
strong and generous support of Leadership Huntington. H2M has been with us since 1995. When asked why they have stuck with Leadership over so many years, they tell us it's because of how much they get out of it; that's its a deeply meaningful experience for the individuals they share with us, and valuable skills development for their team.

Indeed, in addition to their strong financial support, we have counted the people they send through our program as incredible assets.
For this, and everything you do for the Town of Huntington, THANKS!!!

Come Enjoy a Night of Afro-Rican and Caribbean Sounds with Leadership!
Since 1963, the Huntington Arts Council has inspired and assisted the growth of art organizations and artists, many of whom are now flourishing throughout Suffolk County. Their Summer Arts Festival goes on all summer long, gracing the Rainbow Stage in Heckscher Park with over 40 free concerts of local, national and international talent. Any show is a good chance to bump into a Leadership grad, but on July 29th at 8pm, we hope to turn out in force for a night of dancing and good cheer.

Featured that night is Plena Libre. Here is the description from the Arts Council Festival Brochure: With unique Afro-Rican style that blends contemporary cumbia, meringue, salsa and other Afro-Caribbean sounds, this orchestra is one of the heavy weights of the current Latin music scene. Plena Libre features five vocalists singing in lush three and four part harmonies. This orchestra is a powerhouse!

So bring a blanket, bring your family, and come savor the summer night with us! We'll be sure to save a spot for you!

Libby Hubbard

President's Council Member, Libby Hubbard Honored on Golden Anniversary with the LWV
While celebrating it's 90 year history, The League of Women Voters recently honored Leadership Huntington President's Council member Libby Hubbard for being a "Life Member." This award recognizes 50 years of service to the League. In this time, Libby has held leadership roles on both local and state levels.

Libby is well known and appreciated by countless organizations in Huntington and beyond. In addition to her long service with organizations like the LWV and Leadership Huntington, which are focused on empowering community members on a very broad level, Libby has been very specifically involved with housing and social justice issues, including playing a key role in helping shape the Huntington Township Housing Coalition, which seeks to increase the availability of housing for low and moderate income individuals through research, public education and advocacy.

We at Leadership are grateful for Libby's enduring service to our community, and honored by her warm support of Leadership Huntington. Thank you!

Judy DiBartolo

Judy DiBartolo, Class of  2005, Receives Huntington Hospital's 3rd Annual Magnet Nurse Award

Holistic nurse Judy DiBartolo, RN, a Huntington Hospital employee for 32 years, has received the hospital's third annual Magnet Nurse Award.

As quoted in the Huntington Hospital Community Health Line: "Nominees for our award must demonstrate their commitment to community service and continuing education," explained Janet Milanese, RN, MS, CNAA, Associate Director of Nursing and Nurse Recruiter. "They must also work to enhance the hospital environment for patients and their peers."

The article goes on to explain that Ms. DiBartolo was one of the pioneers of Huntington Hospital's Center for Complementary Care, and the first Huntington Hospital nurse to achieve national certification in holistic nursing. This passion for complementary techniques, her direct work with patients and her willingness to spearhead a number of initiatives have helped influence the culture of the entire hospital.

The letter nominating Ms. DiBartolo reads in part: "She has a unique ability to connect with her patients at a deep personal and spiritual level. She can comfort even the most fearful patient with encouragement, kindheartedness and empathy... Many nursing professionals admire her expertise with awe. She demonstrates clinical competence in her specialty and had been instrumental in creating the opportunity for alternate modalities of care to be provided to all patients."

Now that's Leadership!

NEWS FROM THE FLAGSHIP
Class of 2010
A Letter from a Classmate
We are always delighted to hear about how Leadership has somehow touched the life of a graduate, be it through a new connection, awareness, or skill.

These stories -- individual manifestations of the Leadership experience -- are what motivate our volunteers to keep driving this program forward. Here is an excerpt from a letter we recently received from a member of the current class:

"Just wanted to let you know that my Leadership Huntington skills were really put to work today...

One of the major reasons I joined Leadership was to improve my public speaking and professional confidence. I'm proud to say that I not only contributed many ideas to the group today, but I also recorded and presented our findings. I didn't feel nervous at all, and in fact was completely at ease in my presentation.

I think I owe this to my involvement in Leadership, and I just wanted to take a minute to thank you both! It's been a great experience thus far, and I'm looking forward to whatever comes next!"

Encouraging community members, and validating their ability to find their voice and do their thing is at the very heart and soul of Leadership. Letters like these return the favor!

Coming Soon...Announcement of the Class of 2010's debut at the annual Leadership Gala, anticipated to occur in October. It's going to be great!!!

We hope you enjoyed this edition of the Leading Edge. We love to hear your feedback and to find out more about what our grads are up to. Please send your comments and submissions to info@leadershiphuntington.org

Sponsorship opportunities are available
