Dear Chamber Members & Friends,

January 1st is always a daunting day! Every year we make well intentioned resolutions and within the first few weeks of January, we are back to our old wicked ways.

Resolutions often fail because they're made with no action plan or measurable steps. Thinking of your resolutions more like goals for 2012 might help you achieve them. Good goals come with a plan and are more likely to be reached if they are SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Rewarding, and Time-limited.

The theme for this month is PLANNING. We will be sharing good information all month long on how to set good goals, and how to achieve them in 2012. Look for articles on our facebook page and follow us on twitter as we share information that will help. Finally, make sure you join us at our January 20th meeting and get motivated for the new year as we hear from Katherine Miracle on Planning for a Strong 2012.

In closing, I want to share a quote from Edith Lovejoy Pierce that will hopefully inspire you in the new year.

"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day."

Thank you to the members of of our Marketing & Membership Task Force for organizing another great Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Holiday Party on December 8th at Sweetwater Landing. Over 20 Chamber restaurants donated food for the event and Ranger Catering students volunteered as our waiting staff.

At the end of the evening, we had the Holiday Bid & Buy Grand Prize drawing for the 46" Sony Bravia Flatscreen TV Raffle! Congratulation to Teresa Andreani from the Lakewood High School Alumni Foundation! Thank you Costco Wholesale in Avon for donating the TV and to everyone who bought a ticket to support the Chamber's Economic Development fund.

Economic Development Task Force

New Vice Chair: Bill Craighead

Welcome our new Vice Chair of Economic Development for the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Bill Craighead. Bill is the Managing Partner of Cleveland Home Title, a graduate of the University of Dayton, and a lifelong Lakewood resident. He is a member of our Board of Directors and was instrumental in developing and implementing LakewoodAlive's "Open House", which showcases property for sale in the downtown vicinity every September.

The Economic Development Task Force meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at noon at the Winking Lizard. We are always looking for interested committee members so please join us for a working lunch!

Legislative Task Force
Hosting Open House for City Hall

The Legislative Task Force will hold a reception at the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce for all Lakewood City Council Representatives and Department Directors on January 10 at the Chamber Office. Nicole Farley, the Legislative Task Force Vice-Chair, hopes this reception will continue to strengthen the partnership between the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and City Hall.
