Everday we receive hundreds of junk email. We do have filters but still find it necessary to ensure that the filter hasn't eaten an email we actually wanted to read. You can also be sure on a daily basis that 75% of the mail that the poor postman brings, also goes straight into the bin.
But it does prompt me to remind you that you and your brain/subconscious mind receives over 2,000,000 bits of information per second via the input channels of your fives senses. If you were to be instantaneaously aware of this external input all at once, you would undoubtedly go insane.
Ulric Neisser, a psychologist, says "Our mental machinery knows everything that is going on around us but discards most as unimportant before consciousness is reached."
If real terms you only actually process between 5 and 7 bits of information. What you delete, distort and generalize depends on your own internal filters. These filters are your rule book and are created through your up bringing, your enviornment, and the signficant exmotional experiences in your life.
The filters are therefore composed of values, beliefs, attitudes, memories, decisions and language. John McCrone summarises this quite ably "A person is a collection of memories and habits that shape the moment-to-moment flow of the mind."
In essence today, you are the sum total of your life experiences, beliefs, values, internal rules, attitudes and memories.
But, it doesn't end there, for some of our beliefs, values, internal rules, and attitudes are those taught to us by our parents and peers from their own life experiences.
If things aren't going well for you and you believe you have a really positive attitude, then there is a good chance that your inner (subconcious) belief is in contradiction to your conscious belief.
Here's some examples:-
If your conscious dream is to have more money, but your subconscious belief is 'that money can't buy happiness' then the chances of your ever having money to play with is not very high.
If your conscious dream is to be a well paid artist, but your subconscious belief is that 'artists never make any money' then the chances of making a living from art is not very high.
My mother was responsible for giving me one of her beliefs "Work hard or starve" based on her own experiences of life. For many years I worked 24/7 and never had room for play. Subconsciously I believed that if I ever let up and relaxed, I and my family would surely starve! Took me many years to uncover that belief but once I did I was able to relax and cut down my hours and heh, we never starved.....
Our work here at StarChild is devoted to helping you uncover some of your internal filters. Once you have made a decision to change any aspect of your life, then we are here to help you. But as much as we would like to be, we are not miracle workers for the responsibility for the change must rest with you.
As with the two testimonials, both clients had decided to make a change in their lives. They took on board the help that we offered and that which resonated with them, they acted upon.
They changed their internal filters, so that like the computer they were able to dismiss the junk mail - those things that no longer served them in their daily lives.
By changing the filters, and the things they focused on, they were able to accept responsibility for their lives and know that they had the power within themselves to bring about the changes they wanted and deserved.
If you want to change any aspect of your lives, make the decision to change and then contact us to find out which is the best route for you.
