Feature Article - Be your Best!
With the Olympic Games in London coming around the corner (July 27- August 12th) - with the theme "Inspire a Generation, it seemed appropriate to talk about the importance of being our best. Yes, summer does have its wonderful advantages (vacation, time with family, enjoying God's creation, and my boundless boosters below has some great ideas for refreshment and relaxation), but as we will be seeing in a few weeks, there is something inspirational when we see athletes achieve their personal best. Anyone can be mediocre. But it takes discipline, commitment, perseverance, and patience to do our best - every day. I recently heard Tim Tebow talk about the importance of doing his best every day he is out there on the football field. He may not be the best skilled player (though he is very talented) but his coach speaks about the fact that no one is more dedicated than Tim! So whether we are talking about sports, business, or our personal lives, here are three quick ideas on how we can "be our best:"
1. Take risks. Successful people make risk-taking a practical part of their lives. How long ago has it been since you took a risk - either in your career life, relationship, or personal life? Your risk could be getting over your fear of public speaking (I highly recommend Toastmasters which has helped thousands of people overcome their fear of speaking), or it could be trying something new - something out of your comfort zone. What new project at work can you tackle this summer?
2. Mentor those around you. Are there people in your organization who could use some of the knowledge that you have obtained? I bet if you look around there are people in your work or personal life who would benefit from your wisdom. Often we don't grow as much as when we are in a teaching or mentoring role for someone else. And the relationships we can make with people can be long-lasting! There is nothing as satisfying as helping others succeed (and avoiding our own mistakes!). Be your best by helping others be their best!
3. Build community. We can't be our best alone. If we were to interview any successful athlete, business person, or leader, we would realize that they didn't do it alone. Just as we can be a mentor ourselves, we can also build a network around us - people who can support us, encourage us, and be that inspirational voice in our ears when we feel discouraged.
Let's be inspired to be our best as we root for these dedicated athletes who we all are rooting for during the summer Olympics!

Boundless Boosters for your Business
What do kangaroos and successful people have in common? Neither can go backwards. Sure we all have our moments, hours, even days when things seem to be going backwards - whether it is a rejection from one of our best customers, a communication misunderstanding that is causing havoc in our relationship, or a bad business decision. But we always have the choice to move forward.
Here are some "boundless boosters" to help you get refreshed this summer! I call these the three "R's:
Refresh - Think about what refreshes you and plan to incorporate some refreshment - every day! For me, it is being with a good friend, family member, or my husband - and just talking and sharing. It could be integrating a swim into your work out regimen. It could be a cold glass of "sweet tea." Whatever it is - intentionally plan those things that will refresh you - emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally.
Reinvent - Summer is a great time to "reinvent" yourself. Think about your goals for the new year - if things are not working - think about reinventing a strategy, a task, a plan. Maybe it is reinventing your marketing or your social media. How about taking a look at your website? Perhaps you need to reinvent how you are perceived with your customers. Or it could simply be reinventing your appearance with a new haircut, new clothes, or a new pair of shoes!
Reengage - Think about how you can reengage with your work or your relationships in a new way. If you have taken a back seat to your goals or dreams - now is the time to reengage with your purpose or mission. Find out what "lights your fire" and start doing those things. Reengage with those things and people that give you energy and passion.
